It’s interesting to hear people speak so extensively about a font that we use everyday. This short doc is centered on the Times New Roman font, mapping its conception and usage in the media (and elsewhere) throughout the years – I love the way it’s filmed and the tactful use of type. Watching this video today exposed me to quite an interesting series. Last year, The Times teamed up with production company Betsy Works to produce a series of short form documentaries profiling the historical and cultural impact of The Times and Sunday Times and the work of their editors, journalists and contributors over the years. However, the ‘Times New Roman’ installment is much more light-hearted in comparison to some of the other videos from the series. Unquiet delivers powerful stories touching on the training people working in the media have to undergo in order to do their jobs.
The main people should get more airtime than those farther down your list. In case you’ll have plenty of time for your own address, you might want to start using a tiny narrative concerning the lead – a short history of your livelihood, an amusing anecdote, or a quotation. Please be as comprehensive as you possibly can in your explanation. Normally, the business that just gave your business a package of money, your parents, your spouse, or a spiritual number will soon be near the top. You will only manage to make short mention of the remaining portion of the individuals, and you’ll desire to organize them if you will find lots of them.
Adam and I spent last weekend escaping the city and shooting some visual goodness that you’ll be seeing very soon. It’s photography like this that inspires us to venture out into the wild, armed with our cameras and search for every possible opportunity for a great shot. A photographer going by the name Fox Grom took his huskies out onto a thawing frozen lake and the results are like something you’d expect to see in a fairytale movie, check them out after the cut.
While travelling I would often watch surfers from the beach in pure amazement as they expressed such a great sense of freedom riding the waves, it seemed to me like the equivalent of flying on water. The ocean is so powerful and for a brief moment a person would channel this power in a spectacular display. For this reason I love the work of Ray Collins, a photographer who has captured the waves in some of their most expressive moments, showing their strength but also their beauty. Roz Chast, an illustrator and artist for The New Yorker has had over one thousand cartoons published in the magazine since her first published cartoon in 1978. This short film by New Yorker Video looks more closely at her work, the thoughts and the process behind it. In it she explains that everything can be drawn differently by different people, a very simple but important and often overlooked concept. You don’t have to do something like someone else did in order to be successful at it, there are always different approaches. More after the cut.
The guys over at the German design studio, Stellavie, have put together a small series of beautiful movie director portraits. Limited to 200 prints per edition, the series features Alfred Hitchcock, Martin Scorsese and David Lynch, with more potentially to follow. The prints were drawn and illustrated by Julian Rentzsch, who I immediately followed on Instagram following my discovery of this amazing artwork. Check them out in more detail after the cut.
Dominic Wilcox is a designer, artist and inventor who turns everyday items into something out of the ordinary. Stones covered in gold leaf become “Luxury Skimming Stones” for example and the much talked about self driving car gets an upgrade from Wilcox, who has designed the “Stained Glass Driverless Sleeper Car of the Future.” This short documentary takes a look inside the mind of the man himself and reveals the method behind his madness. We’ve been big fans of the minimalist watch brand Larsson & Jennings for quite some time, their watches are affordable while still maintaining their place as an investment piece that will be with you for years to come. Their classic and minimalist design means each piece is, excuse the pun, timeless and made to withstand the follies of fashion trends. The new space on Monmouth Street in Covent Garden is designed just like their watches, clean and minimal. The Swedish brand has also brought a touch of home into the space with a Fika bar so that you can get your caffeine fix while choosing your perfect time piece. Check out the store in more detail after the cut.
