Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

Throwback Thursday | Fox Kids

posted by on 12/02/2015

Remember when children’s television was actually good? Like when Fox Kids still existed? If you’re 90’s born and liked your cartoons then you can relate. X-men, Spiderman, Batman, Beetleborgs, Power Rangers, Ninja Turtles, Transformers; the list goes on! Before they pulled the plug on this channel, they dominated the market quite closely with Cartoon network… I definitely got up at 6am some days just to watch X-Men and Ninja Turtles before school and I’m not ashamed :|. So this week’s throwback is dedicated to Fox kids, check the flipside for some nostalgia.

Throwback Thursday | Branded Haircuts

posted by on 05/02/2015

If you paid regular trips to the barbers on the high street for your £5 haircut, then you would have been guilty of this. Back in the day it was completely acceptable to have the Nike, Adidas or even Umbro logo on the back of your head. I remember when my barber cursed me with a reversed Nike tick and I didn’t clock…. School was tough, I got rinsed! If this travesty wasn’t so frowned upon now, I wonder if kids would be getting the Apple logo on their heads? Anyway, this week’s throwback is dedicated to those ridiculous haircuts that a lot of us have been guilty of and would like to pretend never happened. And if you still get these done, it’s ok; we’re not here to judge. But we’d advise you to stop… now.

Throwback Thursday – Sega Classics

posted by on 22/01/2015

Seeing what animator Dillon Markey did with his Power Glove (even though I don’t remember ever laying eyes on one) took me back a little bit. Gaming was a big part of childhood and for me it was all about playing Streets Of Rage until my eyes dried up… seriously that game was ridiculously hard! I never completed it until a few years ago when Niran bought Sega Classics for PS3 and we spent half a day trying to crack it, ha! We got there in the end, a life-long mission achieved. So this week’s throwback is dedicated to classic Sega games. Remember Shinobi? Or Sonic that literally had unlimited levels I don’t care what anyone says, no one ever completed it… and Sega took the piss because you couldn’t save your progress. Hard times. Well now you can find most of these games on iTunes… mind blown!

Y&Y Selections #1

posted by on 02/10/2014

The whole Y&Y team is big on music. With our weekly (or so) #Eargasms posts, we like to keep on top of new music and sharing this with you guys. With that, I have the pleasure of introducing a new music series from the team. Y&Y Selections is a playlist of 20 selected tracks of what we’re listening to right now. Simple. The power Soundcloud gives artists to share their music with the world is fantastic, and more often than not you’ll find yourself pressing play on a track from an artist you’ve never heard of before and end up voyaging down a rabbit hole of musical goodness. Click through, press play and have a listen to what we’re currently diggin’ in the music world.

Rosetta Stone | 180 Day Challenge

posted by on 11/08/2014

I live in a household where my housemates are both Vietnamese, the only downside of this is the fact that they are able to have conversations with each other right in front of me and I have no clue what they are saying. I absolutely hate it when they do this but not for reasons you may think. I hate it because it reminds me of the fact that I can only speak English, simply put I get a little jealous of the fact that they can effortlessly float between two languages. I’ve always wanted to be able to speak another language since I don’t class patois as a language so when Rosetta Stone came to us with a challenge I jumped straight in. Read to find out what the challenge entails.

Throwback Thursday – Kenan & Kel

posted by on 31/07/2014

Traditionally at Y&Y, on Thursdays we throwback to tunes that deserve to be remembered. But now we’re widening the net and taking you back, way back, back into time with not just music, but fashion, films, cultural moments and movements from yester-year. We’ll reminisce on the good old days (damn, we’re getting old) or talk about things that need to stay in the past. Welcome to the remixed #throwbackthursday.

I’m taking the reigns on the first one, throwing back to two young men who were a massive part of my childhood.

Hidden Gems | Share your Havens of Inspiration

posted by on 10/06/2014

Hidden Gems. One of the things we love most about London is if you deviate from your usual routes even for 5 minutes, you’re probably going to discover somewhere or something new. So when American Express told us about their latest campaign to highlight these locations around the capital, we were happy to jump on board as ambassadors. The campaign is all about uncovering hidden gems and championing inspirational spots that aren’t particularly celebrated, or better yet undiscovered- and then featuring them on an interactive map. So to kick things off, the Y&Y family have gathered theirs but we’re going to need your help to find even more. Check out some of our inspirational spots and how you can help us on the flipside.

Through the Lens | A View of London

posted by on 05/06/2014

We love our city. Yes, we all need escapes sometimes, but London is where we dream and chase those dreams. I’m taking my Through the Lens feature to the blog for a second to share some snaps of my favourite place on Earth – London. Google City Experts and BT invited us to an exclusive trip to the iconic BT Tower to learn some more history of the city, the tower and get some photos from the viewing gallery at the very top. It really was something special to see London from this high up, and watch how the city landscape changes it’s character from daylight to night time. Have a look at some photos below.
