Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

AKG Y-Series Headphones

posted by on 24/11/2014

When I think of AKG I am reminded of the time that I put these small headphones on whilst I was at work and being completely astounded by the sound that they produced and then bowled over by the price the were selling for (only £50). So when I got news that they were set to release a new a range I immediately paid attention. AKG are set to release their latest collection called the Y-Series. The series comprises of the Y50, Y40 and Y45 BT.

Apple To Merge Beats Music and iTunes?

posted by on 28/10/2014

When Apple bought Beats for the crazy amount of money they bought it for some people questioned their motives. Some even thought they were crazy however, the latest rumor about their plans to merge Beats Music into iTunes makes their reasoning much clearer. With the rise of streaming services there has been a steady decline in digital music sales so instead of creating an entirely new service to compete with the likes of Spotify Apple decided to go out a buy one instead. Sources are reporting that Apple are currently talking with the big record labels to secure a deal where users would pay $5 for a monthly streaming subscription. If they manage to broker this deal and offer it to new consumers along with their astonishingly large pool of users that already use iTunes, 800 million, then I think it”s pretty safe to that Spotify who charge $10 may find it hard to survive.

Ampy | Power your devices from your motion

posted by on 21/10/2014

I remember the days when my Nokia 3310 could go nearly 2 days without seeing a charger, now of course in this smartphone era you’ll need to keep a USB cable or battery charger in your back pocket out of fear that your phone will leave you stranded on the tube platform with no access to Instagram. Let me introduce you to Ampy, a wearable device that captures energy from your motion and converts it into power to charge your phone (or any USB-powered device). Walk, run, or cycle… The more you move, the more battery life you get. Get Ampy…

Apple Watch: Over-Connected

posted by on 13/09/2014

Coming out of my blogging hiatus to post this article that I feel is quite fitting for our generation and the place I’m currently at in life. Slowly starting to repel away from social networks and the stream of non-stop media messaging – imagine how much brand messaging that you’re hit with on a daily basis from the second you wake up to the time you hit the bed. Plus I’ve got intense FOMO where I’ll end up refreshing my feeds for no damn reason, hence why I’ve deleted social applications off my phone to stop allowing it to distract me. The article is direct response to what Apple have just released – The Watch. For the first time, I’m not liking their product nor see it’s purpose. It’s just another level of busyness to add to our lives, it doesn’t simplify anything – heck why does a 1-3 second stretch to take your phone out of your pocket justify a watch? Another thing to distract us from the experience we call life. This quote from the cover story in this week’s Time stood out for me: The reality of living with an iPhone, or any smart, connected device, is that it makes reality feel just that little bit less real. One gets over-connected, to the point where the thoughts and opinions of distant anonymous strangers start to feel more urgent than those of your loved ones who are in the same room as you. One forgets how to be alone and undistracted. More on the reverse.

Omote | Real-Time Face Tracking & Projection Mapping

posted by on 22/08/2014

This right here is an incredible display of how fast technology is developing and also a great showing of how cross-pollination of art forms can create mind blowing results. Project Omote is a collaboration between a projection mapping specialist Nobumichi Asai, a make-up artist Hiroto Kuwahara and Paul Lacroix a digital image engineer. In the video, a model has her face scanned and mapped on which a series of graphics are overlaid in realtime. She displays slow movements and the projection stays intact- it’s amazing. It probably only works with precise movements for now, but once this is fully developed I’m sure the gaming and even the performing arts industries will be all over it (if they’re not already).  Watch after the break.

Throwback Thursday – Sony Playstation

posted by on 14/08/2014

I’m taking it back to Christmas of ’95. My brother, my sister and I had undone all our presents, when there was one left that our parents hadn’t put under the tree. Out it comes – a fairly large box all wrapped up. Ridiculously excited, we furiously ripped the paper off to reveal a Sony Playstation. My life was changed forever. The Playstation was a major part of my childhood, and holds many memories of my years growing up. Even when I got the whole thing illegally chipped and could get access to hundreds of games for a fiver. Still, it was the introduction of tech in to my life, and I’m fortunate enough to say that I was in the generation to experience this milestone in gaming and technology as a whole. I’m still a gamer, though not as hardcore these days, and I’m sure we can all relate to a little throwback of this amazing console. More on the reverse.

Unlock Your Phone With A Tattoo

posted by on 08/08/2014

VivaLnk temporary tattoos are the new way forward or so they’ll have you believe. It has become apparent to technology makers that we as consumers have become either extremely lazy or very impatient. So much so that apparently we now need a quicker way to unlock our mobile phones. Granted this is not a new thing since Apple introduced the fingerprint scanner to their iPhones, however I don’t necessarily put that in the same category as this nonsense because it does have other uses. The penny sized, extremely thin and flexible tattoos are placed on the wrist and last up to five days. Currently they are only compatible with Motorola’s Moto X however other platforms and providers are expected to be announced in the future. If you fancy checking the tattoo out for yourself then head over to the VivaLnk website and place an order. Head on over to the flipside to see how it all works.

The COOLEST | The 21st Century Cooler

posted by on 21/07/2014

So in a nutshell, The Coolest Cooler is a portable kitchen upgraded with all the  21st century trimmings we’ve come to deem mandatory. Packing a battery-powered blender; waterproof Bluetooth speakers; USB charging sockets; pod-like storage for plates and a cutlery, a built-in bottle opener and even LED lighting- it’s the ultimate kit for a day out with the family/friends. While this awesome piece of inventory blows my mind, it’s actually quite fascinating the backing it has received this time around. Inventor, Ryan Grepper set his target at a humble $50,000 and so far the project has raised over $6 million and counting! Well on course to become the most successful crowd-funded project thus far. Great idea but also good timing I’d say… I guess the sun has gotten everyone gassed hence they be throwing their money all over this Kickstarter gig! Might have to sell this idea back home with an added hot plate and Jollof Rice dispenser =  winning. So to sum up, the The Coolest is bloody cool… sorry, not sorry. Check it out

Apple – iPhone 5S – Parenthood

posted by on 01/07/2014

Man, it’s weird be back in an environment so dominated by advertising, brands and titles with each vying for human connection with their consumers. Apple as we all know are one of the best at it. Strong brand guidelines that never swerve too far away and look for the ‘edgy’ business that most want. They’ve always kept it clean, simple and straight to the point. This latest one taps into the parents with a beautiful spot featuring several moments in an iPhone could help in a child’s life – from capturing moments, to play time and educating them on basic human process such as brushing their teeth. You’ll end up aww-ing at some point during this clip, if you don’t – you’re one cold hearted mofo. Smile.

Lix The 3D Pen

posted by on 01/05/2014

No joke but this kinda blew me and my housemates mind. Being able to pick up a pen and draw a 3D object seemed like a far fetched idea a few years ago however technology moves so quickly now days that nothing surprises me anymore. Although I don’t get surprised I still get excited by a piece of kit which is simply genus. Art director Ismail Baran and creative director Anton Suvorov have launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund their new invention and have almost quadrupled their original goal already. The pen which is being advertised as “the smallest 3D printing pen in the world” is not much bigger than a regular pen but allows you to draw in the air and create sculptures wherever you please. It heats up the plastic filament within 60-seconds (having been powered by USB) and cools down rapidly allowing the plastic to set. Check out the short vid explaining Lix’s capabilities when you read on. For those wanting to get their hands on a Lix then you can pre-order a pen when you pledge £82 or more to the Kickstarter.
