Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

Dope Quote #54

Click here for higher resolution version.

Change. tʃeɪn(d)ʒ – make or become different. It’s been a WHOLE minute since my last Dope Quote post, there has been a lot happening and shifting in my world over the past few weeks. New direction, new ideas and reasons after questioning everything that I was producing. So as you travel into work this morning, ask yourself one simple question - ‘Why are doing this?’. It should help clear up any doubts you have, are you solving a problem? useful? value? is there purpose? To do great work, you need to feel that you’re making a difference. This latest change in my life has been a long time coming, sometimes you know what you need to do but you choose not to do so due to external circumstances. However this is my life’s work, I don’t want to sit around and wait on my legacy. The most damaging thing you can do is let other voices define you and drown out your own thoughts. Make changes, break routines, evolve an do something different. Here’s to a few sleepless nights in the next few months, you’ll see the fruits of my work in 2013. Have a great week!

Progress – Virgin Active | #BeYourPersonalBest

posted by on 31/10/2012

It has been almost a month since my last #BeYourPersonalBest post, after failed attempts at Insanity, p90x and even running. I’ve found something that I enjoy, the gym. I never thought me and physical exercise would ever become friends again. What’s different this time you say? I guess it’s most likely because I have a gym buddy, Ricky of TechMog and the Virgin Active UK gym that we attend. It’s the creme del a creme of gyms. More on the reverse.

Cool Runnings | Amsterdamage

posted by on 26/10/2012

This weekend gone, international running crews Bridge Runners, Paris Running Club and London’s Run Dem Crew (rolling 120 members deep) arrived in Amsterdam for the marathon, and, more importantly, third instalment of the Bridge The Gap meet-up hosted this time by Patta’s Running Team. Yin&Yang presence was in full effect; not only was I there to take on the Dutch roads, Yin was also in Amsterdam for a related-but-not-related project. In my last Cool Runnings post I spoke about running confidence and remembering my greatness on the pavements. This weekend presented a whole different plane of reflection, extending much further beyond the steps I took in my trainers. Read on to find out what I learned and see some stunning race photography by Yin.

NFL Takeover At Nike Town London

posted by on 26/10/2012

Honestly, this year has been all about sports in London. England even. We’ve actually won a plethora of titles and not too mention hosting the BEST Olympics ever (might be a bit of bias in there). I’ve been proudly representing my future home nation with. their NBA jersey ever since, it’s been my lazy day look for the past few months since returning from the US. The west coast jock look has somehow made its way into my wardrobe, quite surprising ey? for someone who’s been an advocate of the ‘grown man’ etiquette look. I’ve always been fond of the Letterman jacket but never had thought I’d be wearing jerseys again any time soon. So the Americanisation of UK continues with NFL taking over London with this Sunday’s game at Wembley. More on the reverse.

Dope Quote #53

posted by on 15/10/2012

Well hello there, it’s been a short while since I wrote one of these. I’ve got good reason for writing this one, facing a trial later with my first ever appraisal. I’m not too worried, though I did ask around for advice – not sure why since it’s going to be based on MY performance over the past 12 months. No one’s advice or words can change that. This week’s quote came from an ad that I walked by which features a time line of Abraham Lincoln‘s life, who knew he failed for 30 years straight? Before he finally won and became president. (see image on the reverse) One thing I’ve tried to do with Dope Quotes is keep it deeply personal, sharing stories from my life and linking to them to the quotes that really speak to me from the books and other pieces that I read. Call me an over sharer but for me – the more you reveal, the more people can relate. I honestly believe my past mistake, hurts and pain can help give someone else a future. What we’ve gone through enables us to help others. Sigh, I’ve kind of gone off topic! back on it on the flip side.

What If Money Was No Object?

posted by on 11/10/2012

Incredible lecture from the late great British philosopher Alan Watts, y’all will have probably already seen this video as it has gone viral with over 365,000 views. The lecture is combined with some stunning imagery but for once, it’s not about the visuals, listen carefully to his words. He asks you a question, one that many people will have to dig deep to answer. What would do with your life if money was no object? Society has almost caged us into this natural belief that money is a necessity for happiness.  I guess I’d still be in the media industry in some shape or form, I’d still be using my God given talents – photography, design and my eye for all things visual more. I just want to create freely. What would you be doing if it didn’t exist? Watch on the reverse.

Dope Quote #52

posted by on 08/10/2012

Sometimes in life we struggle to deal with or comprehend why it is hard for us to take our lives to the next level. We stay steady blaming any and everything except ourselves when it is in fact the reflection in the mirror we should be questioning. Self reflection is often needed and occasionally necessary. Although it may seem at times like it is the fact of the matter is this statement is not rocket science. If you are lazy and have no drive yet expect to make a huge success of yourself then you are deluded, simple as. Don’t ever forget that it is only YOU who can take YOU to where you want to go so get your mind right and go for it.

Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park | No Ordinary Park

posted by on 07/10/2012

As of 2013, the Olympic Park which housed the 2012 games earlier this year will be renamed ‘Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park’; and in a bid to make use of what has been dubbed by some as “a waste of money” and “national pride” – the park will be open for the public and transformed into what I’ll describe as another city (within the city).
