Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

Sean Combs / Diddy – 2014 Howard University Commencement Speech

posted by on 12/05/2014

While most of Twitter talks about the trending internal family dispute, I stumbled across this brilliant commencement speech from Dr. Sean Combs at his former school, Howard University. Everyone knows him for the Bad Boy years and his infamous dance moves but behind all that, he’s a smart business man who’s come along way from growing up in Harlem. He shares a little bit of his struggle, NYC marathon story and more – head on over after the cut and watch.

“Don’t be afraid to close your eyes and dream, but then open your eyes and see.”

The Superdesk

posted by on 21/02/2014

I love when people challenge the norm and come up with an idea that is not only super cool but practical at the same time. Clive Wilkinson Architects has provided The Barbican Group, a digital creative agency based in New York City, with a less than traditional seating solution for their 125 employees. Based on a Fiat race track, he has designed one continuous desk that not only houses all employees but also creates small semi private areas which are big enough to hold meetings in. The desk also double up as storage with it’s ability to hold books and other such things one would keep on a shelf. I think this is such a good and well executed idea, maybe I get him to hook us up here at Y&Y HQ. They have produced a short video showcasing their new workspace, peep that after the cut.

Benjamin Shine has come up with a simple but brilliant idea for all you candle lovers out there. He has designed a candlestick holder that shapes a new candle as the original candle burns. Aptly named Rekindle the device provides the melting candle wax with a cylinder mould for it to drip into and form a new candle. The cylinder has a centred wick enabling the user to simply break the new candle out of its cylinder casing and start using straight away. Definitely a good way to save money.

Nivea’s #Interngram

posted by on 16/02/2014

Who’s done an internship before? Who hasn’t? I’m looking at you 1st and 2nd year students, do it now! I can’t tell you enough how much of an impact my internship at We Are Social during my 2nd year break had on my career. It’s one of the main reasons I am where I am now and that opportunity came by chance – simply by asking if there was a place going after I had created a bit of content for our blog side. Voila. The good folks at Nivea want to make it easier for you, all you have to do is show your social media skills by taking a photo/video to bring one of their challenges to life and hashtag it with #interngram. Existential Bummer

posted by on 24/11/2013

I’ve been having this internal battle with myself for a while on doing meaningful work. It’s an endless journey to figure out what’s meaningful and what’s not, advertising essentially is junk created by corporations to feed consumerist culture. Once in a while it does the world some good in the form of campaigns like Bat Kid. Existential bummer touches on life and the fact that we know everything around us will die in the end, it’s the sad part that we all try to put at the back of our minds. Film maker Jason Silva will leave you inspired in 3 minutes, click play after the cut.

The Garden Bridge

posted by on 10/11/2013

Ever thought that London needs a new bridge that people can use to cross the River Thames? Well architect Thomas Heatherwick along with actress Johanna Lumley has designed a great new landmark for the capital called ‘Garden Bridge‘. The design comes in as a answer to the Transport for London’s call for way to improve pedestrian links across the river. The new design will start at Temple tube station on the north side and link to the ITV tower on the South Bank. Lord Mervyn Davies – Chairman of The Garden Bridge Trust has said “This is the first major milestone for the project and marks a very clear intent to create a new landmark for London. The scheme has been shaped and developed into a proposal that will contribute significantly to the future of London’s development and we are committed to ensuring the Garden Bridge will be something that London can be proud of….. Our role is to take this project forward and to raise the necessary funds to build the bridge by the end of 2017.” Peep a couple more pics of the proposed design on the flipside.

Perception Is Reality

posted by on 21/10/2013

This is one of the best things I have read in a long time! I have always found it strange how American sports clubs can just pick up and move cities. If anyone ever came to me and said Arsenal were going to Birmingham, well there would be a follow up conversation that would include words and gestures by grandmother would be ashamed of. Every time I think about teams moving, I only ever imagine it from the point of view those in the city the team is moving from, never thinking about what it must be like for the communities who suddenly have a team thrust upon them. Start Something: The Power of Side Projects

posted by on 05/10/2013

A really quick one here, Medium‘s one of my favourite platforms now – it’s changed my opinion on reading long extended pieces online. It’s design and simplicity makes it effortless to take in information. I came across this piece earlier this week, made me take a step back to reflect on my situation. Y&Y’s still my side project and I’m not quite sure where I’d be without it as both my jobs have come through it, all the incredible experiences and even my photography skills have grown through the site’s journey.
