Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

Throwback Thursday

posted by on 10/07/2014

I’m not gonna lie the inspiration for this weeks Throwback track came from a late night session of me watching Big Brother’s Bit On The Side. One of the guests on the show completely floored me. I was so stunned to see that this person was still around, I mean obviously I didn’t think she was dead or anything but she’s still booking gigs even if it’s a short stint on a panel. I’m glad for her to be honest because I had completely forgot about her existence which is really bad especially when you consider that she is the cousin of my best friend at school. Anywho I think I’ve built up enough suspense now so it is time to reveal who is that star of this weeks Throwback Thursday. Ladies and Gentlemen I present to you Samantha Mumba on the flipside.

This week I found it kinda hard to think of a song but I couldn’t understand why. It wasn’t until I was sitting down in a bar with Yang that the song came to me and yes before you question, much like Beyonce, I’d been drinkin I’d be drankin. I knew the song was the one because we both started dancing to it but obviously Yang took it a little to far and tried to sing along, the operative word being TRIED. Anywho enough about Yang’s failed attempt at staying in key, head on over to the flipside and get into a classic from 2Pac.

Sometimes one forgets how long it takes to construct an Eargasms post. Anywho, I hope you all enjoy the glorious variety in this weeks selection. I would like to give a special mention to the Sam Smith cover of Whitney Houston’s ‘How Will I Know’, this boy can really really sing. It’s actually not fair.

The track that I have selected for this weeks Throwback Thursday is pure grooves. Whilst writing this i’m listening to the track and can’t stop bopping my head, my work colleagues must think i’m some kind of pigeon. Sometimes I really wish I could sing because if i could I would be singing from the top of my lungs right now, this song just puts me in a good mood. Anywho I think it’s time I told y’all what song i’m gushing about. Everybody people enjoy the smooth tones of Maxwell and his classic hit Ascension (Don’t Ever Wonder).

There’s not much one can really say other than head on over to the flipside and press play. We have a great selection including a resurface of Rochelle Jordan and a banga from Mary J Blige.

The Police vs Grime Music

posted by on 01/06/2014

The subculture around Grime music is not the first, and will not be the last, to be subject to legal and media discrimination. In a brief conversation with my dad, he described how the punk scene was regularly harassed and physically attacked, gigs were banned all over the country. In this short documentary, Grime music veteran JME attempts to uncover the reasons behind police cancellation of club events involving Grime artists and to expose legal prejudice towards the culture. Personally I have seen far more trouble and violence at events playing pop or chart music, than at events playing anything that has come to be classed as “urban music,” a controversial term in itself. Check out the documentary even if you’re not a fan of the genre, this is more about a defence of culture, art and freedom.

I haven’t written a Throwback Thursday post for minute but I thought it was time I reclaimed ownership of this and give y’all some of that oldskool you have been missing. This week i’m taking it back to 2001/2002 with a single that was taken from this singers debut album ‘Closer‘ but was then  rerecorded and placed on her second album entitled ‘Even Closer‘. Have you guess who it is yet? No, I didn’t think so. This is a tough one as I feel like she is still relatively unknown. Anywho Enjoy this slice of RnB goodness from Goapele.

Back on track, second week in a row. Kudos to us. Now enough tooting our own horn and on to tooting the horn of the artists featured in this weeks line up. We’ve got some classic MJ pop, some Grime, some House/Garage and some fresh talent in the form of the gifted Tom Misch. If you don’t know who he is then get to know after the cut.
