Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

Throwback Thursday

posted by on 23/10/2014

Jumping back onto music with this week’s Throwback Thursday. I’ve featured Sade before but this track presented itself on shuffle during my commute this morning and I remembered how much love their “Love Deluxe” album. Listen to “Feel no Pain” below, what a track!

Human emotions are very complex and at times extremely fickle however there is a song to compliment every emotion and this is what I love about music. I also love how one song can have so many different meanings, for the many different ears that hear one track follows a many different meanings and/or interpretations of the track. I wonder what kind of meaning our selection of tracks conjure up this week.

Y&Y Selections #1

posted by on 02/10/2014

The whole Y&Y team is big on music. With our weekly (or so) #Eargasms posts, we like to keep on top of new music and sharing this with you guys. With that, I have the pleasure of introducing a new music series from the team. Y&Y Selections is a playlist of 20 selected tracks of what we’re listening to right now. Simple. The power Soundcloud gives artists to share their music with the world is fantastic, and more often than not you’ll find yourself pressing play on a track from an artist you’ve never heard of before and end up voyaging down a rabbit hole of musical goodness. Click through, press play and have a listen to what we’re currently diggin’ in the music world.

Ms Lauryn Hill | Outlook Festival Opening Concert

posted by on 04/09/2014

My love affair started with Lauryn Hill at 6 years old when I convinced my parents to buy my Walkman’s first tape; Fugees’ The Score album. It’s fair to say that with a relationship lasting 20 years, my adoration for her runs pretty deep. However, as much as L-Boogie holds the spot of one of my favourites of all time, a history of hit-and-miss shows – from not showing up to erratic behaviour left my expectations for whenever I was to finally see her live, pretty low. But amongst good vibes brought by the thick crowd of slightly pissed up festival ravers, a stellar warm up show and DJ set, epic surroundings and the knowledge I was about to see one of my favourites ever, even tapered expectations couldn’t dim my excitement when she hit the stage.

Small but stellar collection of songs for you this week. The need for a clever and thought out introduction is not there, all that needs to be said is click play, relax and enjoy.

Throwback Thursday

posted by on 24/07/2014

This weeks throwback track is actually a treat for my mother. I was racking my brain trying to think of what could be possibly the last actual track (at least for a while) that finds it’s way onto the Throwback Thursday thread. It wasn’t until I had a conversation with the mother that it clicked, I felt like I wanted to do something for her. There are many tracks that I could have chosen as she has an eclectic taste however I also wanted to showcase the diversity we as a collective/family possess so for that reason I chose a track that may shock a few people. I personally love this track by Will Young and hope that you all will love it too. Just as a heads up i’d like to let you all know that things are going to change with Throwback as of next week. So stay tuned, until then please enjoy the sweet vocals of Mr Will Young on his track ‘Fridays Child‘. Luv ya mum x

BOSE – Scene Unseen | Dancehall In Japan

posted by on 20/07/2014

Everyone’s always been fascinated by subcultures and scenes, whilst trying to find their own sense of belonging. Bose have created a trilogy of short documentaries exploring music influenced scenes around the world, starting with an investigative look at the rather odd success of dancehall and reggae in Japan. Yes, you read that right. I remember when I first came across a dancehall video from Japan and being completely baffled. I just thought it was a fad, a really niche scene in Tokyo but this documentary says otherwise. It’s a fundamental part of their life and the music, the style and culture runs through them.

Throwback Thursday

“Girl, I, must warrrrrn yoooooooooou”. This week’s throwback is an R&B classic, Poison by Bell Biv Devoe formed from the super cheesy group New Edition. I actually rediscovered this one watching Think Like a Man Too over the weekend; this song pretty much sums up “urban” music of the early 90s. Back then people went crazy over this, it’s no different now – you know if you hear that intro, there’s no option but to buss a running man! Enjoy after the break

Do you fancy having a gasm? What kind of gasm you may ask, well Judging by the title of this post I think it’s pretty obvious that I would suggest a gasm of the ear. In this weeks Eargasms you’ll find tracks from artists who have yet to release an album, one who is gearing up to release their sophomore album and a cover from a relatively unknown artists who has an amazing voice. As ever we are diverse in choice but slight in standards and our standards are high.
