Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

JME | 48 Hour Mixtape

posted by on 14/07/2015

JME. A grime legend that has stayed true to the grime community, and flown the flag for Boy Better Know (BBK) for quite some time now. His Twitter feed is brilliant. His work rate is even better. Noisey, in collaboration with Pepsi Max, noticed this and brought JME in to kickstart their 3 part series ‘48 Hour Mixtape‘ Self explanatory, the aim is for the artist in question to work around their city to make a mixtape in 48 hours. Pretty awesome stuff if you ask me, and JME executes his mixtape brilliantly, even bringing in some other local artists to help out. Check the video and mixtape after the cut.

Y&Y Meets Raekwon To Talk F.I.L.A.

posted by on 22/05/2015

Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style was one of my top 5 games on the Playstation. I played it for hours upon end growing up. If you’re not familiar, it’s a fighting game with the members of legendary hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan. I had a go-to character like you always do in these games, and it was a guy in a hoodie with a boxing style of fighting. That guy was Raekwon, probably the most successful (and arguably the most talented) member of the Wu-Tang Clan. Only Built 4 Cuban Linx was a regular playthrough on my iPod and I, like many others, saw Raekwon as a legend in the world of hip-hop. You can imagine, then, my reaction when I got invited to meet him and ask him about his new album. I bounced around in excitement until the moment I walked in to the room. It was a brief chat, and there was so much more I wanted to ask him, but read on to see the Chef’s thoughts on his new album F.I.L.A.

Jamie xx – Gosh (Music Video)

posted by on 05/05/2015

Jamie xx. Probably one of the greatest talents the UK has produced over recent time. If you’re not already familiar with his work, get familiar. Moreover, the UK musician has got an upcoming global tour - In Colour – that is bound to be amazing. Staying on the amazing new visuals from his latest single Gosh have surfaced, and it’s a must-watch music video. Teaming up with Swedish digital artist Erik Wernquist, the video is a stunning collection of atmospheric visuals featuring shots from outer space. It’s subtly mesmerizing. Watch the video after the cut. This has got me really excited for his upcoming album.

Chris B. Murray | Re-Illustrated Classics

posted by on 21/04/2015

Hip hop fans should instantly recognise the re-illustrated artwork for classics by Notorious B.I.G, Wu Tang Clan, Big Pun and Gang Starr. Chris B. Murray has done some dope work, the 36 Chambers illustration being perhaps the most exciting, the prospect of a Wu Tang inspired anime or manga series is too much to handle. Now if I could just get a copy of one of these to hang on my wall… More after the cut.

Song of the Day | Jose James – It’s All Over Your Body

posted by on 18/03/2015

I saw last week that Jose James is re-releasing his debut album ‘The dreamer’ (brilliant album) and it inspired me to give his albums a re-listen. One of the tracks that stand out for me is ‘It’s All Over Your Body’; this song is a fusion of so many styles of music but typically it’s a soulful-jazz cut with one wicked drum pattern. You’ll find this one on his ‘No Beginning No End’ album which was actually the first body of work I’d ever heard from him. Listen after the break.

Song of the Day | Benjamin Booker – Violent Shiver

posted by on 16/03/2015

Todays song is not something new but instead something I’ve had on repeat for over a week and have sent to numerous friends. Even my dad liked it, and he’s hard to please. Benjamin Booker is a blues rock singer/songwriter and guitarist from New Orleans, if you care for back story (from Wikipedia…). Although I’d much rather you just clicked play to be honest so that I can share this awesome song!

Song of the Day | Flatbush ZOMBiES ft Skepta – RedEye to Paris

posted by on 14/03/2015

I can’t help but put the emphasis on featuring artist Skepta when talking about this one. The London rapper shows once again why he’s currently one of the most influential artist’s in UK music right now and that his influence is extending far and beyond. This follows a string of powerful collaborations, some yet to be released, and precedes the highly anticipated release of Konnichiwa. Press play after the cut.

Song of the Day | Jay Prince – Good Right Now

posted by on 10/03/2015

Today’s song is a fresh jam from London kid Jay Prince. This guy hasn’t slowed down since his entrance to the scene back in 2013, working with some of the most talented up and coming producers in the States and having a developing affiliation to US collective Soulection. His tracks are groovy and mellow, with a perfect fusion between jazz and hip-hop brought together in his EP BeFor Our Time. Good Right Now is no exception, with the new joint being ridiculously smooth and great vibes. Press play after the cut.

Play Any Sound On The Instrument 1

posted by on 10/03/2015

This is one piece of cool technology! Nashville based company Artiphon have been hard at work crafting a device that incorporates the sounds of numerous instruments and enables users to make music using a singular piece of equipment. Thekickstarter funded device is aptly names INSTRUMENT 1 and countless customisable options that allows you to play any instrument and create sounds that can’t be matched. The initial goal of $75000 on kickstarter has quickly been surpassed and currently stands at $527,533, peep the video after the cut to see it’s capabilities but be warned you may end up pledging the $349 price tag needed to get your hands on one.

Song Of The Day | Raheem Bakaré ft Tanika – Purple Sky

posted by on 09/03/2015

The sound track for today comes courtesy of Raheem Bakaré and his sexy single Purple Sky. This track is taken from his debut EP entitled AWOL. I would suggest getting the EP because this guy is seriously talented and his vocals are on point. In the past i’ve put you on to his cover of Sam Smith‘s ‘Stay With Me’ (see here) but it’s nice to share some of his own music with you once again. Enjoy!
