Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

Cool Runnings | Amsterdamage

posted by on 26/10/2012

This weekend gone, international running crews Bridge Runners, Paris Running Club and London’s Run Dem Crew (rolling 120 members deep) arrived in Amsterdam for the marathon, and, more importantly, third instalment of the Bridge The Gap meet-up hosted this time by Patta’s Running Team. Yin&Yang presence was in full effect; not only was I there to take on the Dutch roads, Yin was also in Amsterdam for a related-but-not-related project. In my last Cool Runnings post I spoke about running confidence and remembering my greatness on the pavements. This weekend presented a whole different plane of reflection, extending much further beyond the steps I took in my trainers. Read on to find out what I learned and see some stunning race photography by Yin.

NFL Takeover At Nike Town London

posted by on 26/10/2012

Honestly, this year has been all about sports in London. England even. We’ve actually won a plethora of titles and not too mention hosting the BEST Olympics ever (might be a bit of bias in there). I’ve been proudly representing my future home nation with. their NBA jersey ever since, it’s been my lazy day look for the past few months since returning from the US. The west coast jock look has somehow made its way into my wardrobe, quite surprising ey? for someone who’s been an advocate of the ‘grown man’ etiquette look. I’ve always been fond of the Letterman jacket but never had thought I’d be wearing jerseys again any time soon. So the Americanisation of UK continues with NFL taking over London with this Sunday’s game at Wembley. More on the reverse.

Review | Ed Sheeran @ The Hammersmith Apollo

Listening to good live music is a spiritually cleansing experience (even to someone skeptical towards the idea of a spirit), it has a profound effect that will live with you forever and listening to that music is never the same again, years later a sense of nostalgia will always bring a smile to your face in memory of your night packed like sardines into a hot, smelly venue with nothing to drink for hours, it really is glorious.

Major Lazer talk Red Bull Culture Clash | Y&Y Exclusive

posted by on 15/10/2012

Red Bull Culture Clash

“It’s something I take very seriously, it’s something that we’ve been doing basically all our lives,” Jillionaire of Major Lazer says of sound clashes. “It’s a major part of our history and our heritage,” Miami-bred, Caribbean descendent Walshy Fire adds. Sound clashes – the practice of DJ soundsystems competing against each other by playing the best beats, loudest sounds and catchiest dubplates to be crowned the best DJs by the audience – started in Jamaica’s dancehall scene and became an integral part of Britain’s underground music scene. Reintroducing the culture to the mainstream and opening it up to a whole new audience, Red Bull has rounded up four very different sounds – Major Lazer, Annie Mac, Boy Better Know and Channel One to clash in Wembley Arena on 7th November for the Red Bull Culture Clash. Read on for more information, and to find out how you can ‘Get On Stage’ with the big sound systems.

Later this month, Battersea Power Station will be transformed into a ski resort where you’ll find great live music, shops, alpine themed bars and the world’s best skiers and snowboarders competing in The LG Big Air World Cup; all for this year’s Relentless Freeze Festival. I’ve never been to this before, this year will be my first time- looking at the photos from previous years, it looks mental. The line-up this year looks great too with sets by the likes of Mark Ronson, Zane Lowe, Public Enemy, Shy FX and Ms. Dynamite. Tickets are still available (from £20), more info after the break including the full line-up.
