Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

Topman Sportswear 2014

posted by on 22/05/2014

What’s with every brand getting involved in the sportswear game these days? H&M and now fellow Highstreet retailer Topman have entered the game with a debut collection. I guess fitness has become a big thing in the past few years and looking good whilst doing it is becoming more of a thing. I’m usually swoosh’d out to the max with an off-brand NBA jersey in the gym, you know how we do. There’s only so much you can do with performance wear, it’s more to do with the fit and functional side of things as opposed to out there design. Get the fit and quality right and you’re onto a winner. Topman have the upper hand when it comes to pricing as their sportswear rivals such as adidas have a somewhat higher mark up. £30 for shorts has always been ridiculous in my mind. More on the reverse.

John Legend’s Penn Commencement Speech

posted by on 21/05/2014

Another one!? Yes! John Legend is without a doubt one of my favourite singers, his lyricism and vocal delivery is second to none. If anyone has his contact details, swing them my way – I want him to sing at my wedding next year haha. Alas, I digress – John headed back to his university to give the speech at Penn’s 258th Commencement. Utterly brilliant speech taking a different angle to the usual: “The key to success, the key to happiness is to open your heart to love.” A R&B singer talking about love, corny right? Nope, not even close. Watch the full speech on the reverse, maybe just before you head off to work this morning. Good morning inspiration.

Sean Combs / Diddy – 2014 Howard University Commencement Speech

posted by on 12/05/2014

While most of Twitter talks about the trending internal family dispute, I stumbled across this brilliant commencement speech from Dr. Sean Combs at his former school, Howard University. Everyone knows him for the Bad Boy years and his infamous dance moves but behind all that, he’s a smart business man who’s come along way from growing up in Harlem. He shares a little bit of his struggle, NYC marathon story and more – head on over after the cut and watch.

“Don’t be afraid to close your eyes and dream, but then open your eyes and see.”

TENS – The Real Life Photo Filter

posted by on 08/05/2014

Smart concept and great timing since the world is all applying filters to ‘selfies’ and make yourself look better. Tens brings everyone’s favourite Instagram filter effect to real life – why not view the world you want to see it? The brand breathes a bit of life into the market where much hasn’t changed in the past 50 years. Watch the video after the cut to see how the brand came to life and what they’re all about.

Intimate Self-Portraits by Melania Brescia

posted by on 08/05/2014

Incredible. So intimate, such beautiful composition in each and every one of 22 year old Melanie Brescia‘s self portraits. Each one is deeply expressive, filled with emotion and energy. It almost feels like each portrait gives us a different look into the personality through the intimacy of the shot. From moments of vulnerability, loneliness, longing and heartbreak. I can’t even bring myself to take a self portrait but she’s made me want to explore my new camera’s wifi feature to see what I can create. It’ll probably be a silhouette shot though, would I get as much Instagram likes as a beautiful young woman? Probably not haha.

Percival Menswear: Made In London: The Story

posted by on 06/05/2014

It’s such a rarity to come across a brand that produces their collection in London, heck even manufacturing in the UK is a rarity nowadays. Percival Menswear pride themselves on producing as much of their collections in the UK, often working with manufacturers based in the London area. This short film takes a look at one of the smaller factories in East London, Mr. Khan and his team have been making Percival clothing for a couple years now. Head on after the cut to see production process behind two Percival key pieces – the Melton Western and the Sherlock Jackets.

Defining a Prodigy

posted by on 05/05/2014

Here’s some Monday morning inspiration that I stumbled upon a few days back, funnily enough it’s great content created by a church. Elevation Church’s short film entitled ‘Defining a Prodigy‘ looks at why you get up in the morning/stay up extra late at nigh doing what you do. Passion. The fuel for your dreams. What will you do this week? Watching this clip has been a wake-up call to get things back into gear on the site. With our day jobs becoming more and more demanding, it’s easy to let Y&Y slip under the radar but all we need to do is take a step back and realise it was the reason we have the job in the first place.

Yin&Yang x Dr. Martens – Stand For Something

posted by on 30/04/2014

Iconic British footwear brand, Dr Martens have returned with their successful ‘STAND FOR SOMETHING‘ campaign for SS14. The campaign revolves around the brand’s audiences rebellious and non-conformist spirit. The whole messaging around the campaign asks the question ‘What do you stand for?‘ as simple as that. What do you actually stand for? Take a moment to think about it. I was asked to part in a shoot with 3 others including photographer Garcon Jon and bloggers Mademoiselle Robot and Menswear Style. As you all know, I hate being on that side of the camera so it was an interesting experience.
