Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

Brainstorm Digital’s Visual Effects Skills

posted by on 16/01/2014

We’ve all become accustomed to visual effects being used in film to enhance our viewing experience but do we really know to what extent some of our most loved films relied on artificial enhancement. Brainstorm Digital have released a short video showing some of the work they done on the new The Wolf of Wall Street movie. You’d be surprised by just how much of what we thought was real was actually super imposed, rendered and grafted. Take a look at the video and be prepared to be shocked by their computer generated wizardry, it does beg the question what is real these days?

Frozen Bubbles

posted by on 09/01/2014

It has been extremely cold here in the UK of late but it’s nothing in comparison to the freezing cold temperatures that have swept the United States. Normally the cold breeds sour faces and miserable moral however I stumbled across some rare beauty and warmth fostered by the cold. Angela Kelly and her seven year old son braved the sub 16 degrees weather in Washington and decided to blow bubbles into the air using some homemade soap solution. As with a lot of things in that temperature the bubbles froze and became the subject of some stunning photography. A simple idea produced such a beautiful result, take a look at the photos by reading on.

Leo Grand | The Homeless Coder

posted by on 02/01/2014

What would you do if you we offered £100 in cash to spend on anything you like or free lessons in coding by a programmer? Patrick McConlogue opened this debate with Leo Grand who was a homeless man living in New York by presenting him with the offer. Leo declined the offer of cash and opted for the free coding lessons. See what he was able to accomplish having been taught the art of code via an inspiration video on the flipside.

Now here’s something different. Motorola have created an interactive print advert that will appear in the pages of select copies of Wired magazine. This unique idea is a worlds first and if a success could start a new trend. The ad will allow readers to customise the Moto X phone by giving them the chance to change to colour of the phone simply by touching the paper. Check out the video after the cut to see how the whole thing works and pick up a copy of WIRED‘s January issue at select newsstand’s and stores to put it to the test.

Casey Neistat | What Would You Do With $25,000

posted by on 19/12/2013

Casey Neistat has previosuly been featured on the pages of Y&Y back in 2012 and earlier this year I stumbled across a video that showcased his working environment and was impressed by his use of space. Today marks his return on the site and I can safely say that this is by far the most impressive thing i’ve seen from him. 20th Century Fox contacted Casey and wanted him to be a part of their promotional campaign for their new movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty however what Casey proposed to them was not what they were expecting. He suggested that they give him the marketing budget and allow him to help those affected by the Typhoon that hit the Philippines back in November and he would film it. Amazingly they agreed. I suggest that you give the film a watch, for me it was quite inspiring.

River Island Spring/Summer 2014 Lookbook

posted by on 07/12/2013

Our good friends at River Island have released the lookbook for their upcoming Spring/Summer 2014 collection. During these miserable cold winter months its nice to see some colour. The bright and bold patterns makes me remember good times that I had this past summer. Now is the time where I start to scope out all the purchases I will be making next year and I can safely say that the black blazer with (probably faux) leather lapels and rounded collar will be on my list. Continuing on from this year it seems that mesh will be a big part of 2014 spring/summer collections and River Island has shown this with their all mesh jacket. Personally  don’t see the point of it but hey it looks ok in this lookbook I guess. Take a look and let us know what you think.

A few weeks ago my colleague at work started playing some oldskool tunes. These tunes had us dancing in the store as if we were at a party, we were on a trip down memory lane. I thought since we took a trip down memory lane i’d invite you guys along by selecting one of the songs we played for this weeks throwback track. Kyle Thompson’s Stunning Self Portraits

posted by on 03/12/2013

Sometimes we do things for our own satisfaction not realising that the outcome could potentially change the direction our lives were headed. 21 year Kyle Thompson was a delivery boy who spent a lot of his childhood plagued with anxiety and the fear of involving himself with others thus retreating and not fully exploring his talent. It wasn’t until he decided to feature himself in his work that things started to click into place. Using a Canon 60D Kyle tapped into his imagination and resourcefulness by using desk lamps for fog lights and flour for stardust to produce some stunning self portraits. With such exceptional results Kyle has now quit his delivery boy job and become a professional photographer. See more of his work when you read on.
