Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

Everybody and their grandmother in the tech world is jumping on the wearable technology hype. Most of what we have seen from that corner of the market has been the introduction and endless speculation about Smart Watches. Samsung have already released their Smart Watch to the world as have some other brands but the one many are looking forward to is the inevitable release of Apple‘s currently mythical variation dubbed ‘iWatch’. With talk suggesting that the iWatch is set to be revolutionary Google, not to be outdone, may have pipped Apple to the post with the unveiling of their new operation system specifically designed for Smart Watches and other possible wearable technologies called Android Wear. Peep the short video they have release showcasing what Android Wear can do.

Kissing A Stranger

posted by on 12/03/2014

The thought of meeting someone for the first time and having to kiss them straight away is kind of scary. I mean yes we do this on a night out however intoxication must have occurred before randomly walking up to someone and kissing them however Tatia Pillieva thinks not. She has created a simple yet kind of beautifully sweet video which sees 20 strangers kiss for the first time. The amateur filmmaker captures the participants  actions leading up to the kiss and reactions post kiss. How would you act, would you find it awkward or would you feel comfortable kissing someone you had just met? It may seem shallow but I think looks would be a factor, if the person is super good looking then i’m sure it would be less of a problem, no?

3D Gifs

posted by on 22/02/2014

I’ve seen many gifs in my time however I had never until a few days ago encountered a 3D Gif. The 3D effect is created by inserting a solid line (usually white) or two on to the clip. As an object moves from the background to the foreground crossing the solid line(s) dividers the audience’s eye translates the image into a 3-dimensional sequence, the manipulation of the human eye is what does the trick. It seems simple but is oh so effective. Take a look at some of these cool 3D gifs when you read on.

The Superdesk

posted by on 21/02/2014

I love when people challenge the norm and come up with an idea that is not only super cool but practical at the same time. Clive Wilkinson Architects has provided The Barbican Group, a digital creative agency based in New York City, with a less than traditional seating solution for their 125 employees. Based on a Fiat race track, he has designed one continuous desk that not only houses all employees but also creates small semi private areas which are big enough to hold meetings in. The desk also double up as storage with it’s ability to hold books and other such things one would keep on a shelf. I think this is such a good and well executed idea, maybe I get him to hook us up here at Y&Y HQ. They have produced a short video showcasing their new workspace, peep that after the cut.

Rekindle

posted by on 16/02/2014

Benjamin Shine has come up with a simple but brilliant idea for all you candle lovers out there. He has designed a candlestick holder that shapes a new candle as the original candle burns. Aptly named Rekindle the device provides the melting candle wax with a cylinder mould for it to drip into and form a new candle. The cylinder has a centred wick enabling the user to simply break the new candle out of its cylinder casing and start using straight away. Definitely a good way to save money.

The Rickshaw Run

posted by on 03/02/2014

Back in September YouTube stars Jack and Finn Harries along with five of their friends entered The Rickshaw Run. The aim was to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust by driving across the width of India along with 90 other participants within a set amount of time. Their only mode of transport was to be these little old rickety Tuk Tuks that had no doors, no comforts and barely a chance of making the finish line in one piece. Alas they made it to the finish line following an eventful two and a half week trek across the country. Fortunately Jack, Finn and their talented friends documented the epic journey and produced a wonderfully crafted four part video series highlighting the trails and tribulations and all that they encountered whilst embarking on this trip. Watch the series after the cut.
