adidas Snowboarding | Japan

posted by on 23/09/2014

It’s fair to say that snowboarding isn’t exactly a popular sport over here, but if you’re a follower of any content put out by sports brands such as Nike and adidas, you’re bound to have been exposed to some form of media around the sport. As the first installment of their new ‘Nomad‘ series,  adidas take a trip to Japan to test out the 2014 collection of gear. In the mountains of Hokkaido and the streets of Sapporo, some boarders, who 90% of the UK population has never heard of, take to the snow and show off their skills. A sport that we never do unless on holiday, but always appreciate watching as these daredevils risk their lives for our viewing pleasure. Thanks, adidas. Click through to see the video.

Vintage NASA Photographs in London

posted by on 18/09/2014

Manned moon landings have always been up for question. Did they happen? Why have we not put humans back on the moon since Apollo 17 in 1972? Still, with moon landings aside, one thing that we can be sure of is the beauty man has witnessed through the exploration of space by NASA. Space photos never seize to amaze me. Galaxies, planets, astronauts. It’s probably one of the most exciting ongoing exploration projects that the human race has conducted. What’s also exciting is that between the 19th September – 25th October, London BREESE Little Gallery is home to vintage NASA photographs taken between 1961 and 1980. Be sure to visit, and read on to check out some examples on what’s on show.

En Route | The Snap Up

posted by on 05/09/2014

Strange ideas aren’t always bad. I came across this short film promoting a campaign that will run this weekend by Japanese clothing brand En Route. They are running a ‘crowd-sourced fashion show’ in Tokyo, whereby models (wearing the brands apparel) will walk around various areas of the city, while passers by take snaps on their phones. The incentive? Upload your photo to the brands site through an app, and if your photo is chosen you could take home a whopping 1,000 yen (just under £6) from cashier men walking around the city. Quirky, but interesting. Low cost (no venue hire), user-generated content (through the photos) and a ton of interactions from the general public (those who will be buying the products!). Dan Rhatigan on Type Design

posted by on 29/08/2014

When considering the more beautiful aspects of design, typography is not exactly something at the top of mind. Until now, I had never watched or read anything associated to type design that has fully engrossed me like this did. Dan Rhatigan, a typographer and director from Monotype, recently worked with Grey London to create Ryman Eco “the world’s most beautiful sustainable font”. Sustainable meaning it uses 33% less ink than fonts such as Times New Roman and Arial. In the video, he talks about the font and if you appreciate anything design, but haven’t quite given typography the time of day, I’ll be surprised if by the end you’re not judging every bit of text you see from now on. It’s quite the art, and while everyone puts there efforts elsewhere with design (technology, architecture etc.), it seems to get left behind. Next time you work on a project, have a longer think about the font you’re using. Catch the video after the cut.

Throwback Thursday – Sony Playstation

posted by on 14/08/2014

I’m taking it back to Christmas of ’95. My brother, my sister and I had undone all our presents, when there was one left that our parents hadn’t put under the tree. Out it comes – a fairly large box all wrapped up. Ridiculously excited, we furiously ripped the paper off to reveal a Sony Playstation. My life was changed forever. The Playstation was a major part of my childhood, and holds many memories of my years growing up. Even when I got the whole thing illegally chipped and could get access to hundreds of games for a fiver. Still, it was the introduction of tech in to my life, and I’m fortunate enough to say that I was in the generation to experience this milestone in gaming and technology as a whole. I’m still a gamer, though not as hardcore these days, and I’m sure we can all relate to a little throwback of this amazing console. More on the reverse.

Old Guys Still Got Game

posted by on 10/07/2014

Multivitamins. Not something you’d usually associate with cool content. Centrum however have got it spot on. In their new short film, they match up a group of old guys against guys almost half their age in a game of pick-up basketball in Harlem to prove that old guys can still get down with the kids. Sounds cringy, but it’s a fun little video of real people playing real sport and has managed to rack up over half a million views in a couple of weeks. We probably all know someone who can move like these guys, and it’s actually pretty inspiring. We spend our lives worrying about getting old, but it really doesn’t mean a thing, and these guys prove it. Good job. Click through to watch the video.
