Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

Flying Lotus – Corunus, The Terminator

posted by on 14/01/2015

Can’t say I pay much attention to music videos, but that has changed somewhat as of late. Primarily because of what I’ve seen from the likes of FKA Twigs and Flying Lotus. Here he is again with an amazing video for Corunus, The Terminator. Directed by LA-based director Young Replicant, the video really encapsulates what the track is all about, and is filmed stunningly well. FlyLo comes to London on May 1st. Check out the video after the jump.

B+W Watercolours by Elicia Edijanto

posted by on 14/01/2015

There’s definitely an appreciation for black and white photography. The fact that the colours are missing can really make you focus more on the image. While it may not always be the most visually appealing photography with the lack of colours we’re so used to being exposed to every day, we can’t deny that taking away the colour really can add to an image. So, you ever seen black and white watercolour art? I certainly haven’t. And these pieces by Indonesian artist Elicia Edijanto are absolutely stunning. Beautifully simple visuals that are everything they need to be, even without the colour. She depicts vulnerable children alongside creatures of the wild such as wolves, bears and elephants. A real calmness about them, I feel. Check them out after the cut.

Litefeet | A Short Film by Scott Carthy

posted by on 06/01/2015

If all what’s going on with the police in the states right now isn’t enough to grind your gears, little things like banning (forcefully, of course) subway performers in New York City is also happening. One performance that goes on underground is “litefeet”, a dance style born from breakdancing that was, and still is, a huge part of culture in the Bronx from way back in the 70′s. Directed by Scott Carthy for Nowness, this short film takes a look at one of the litefeet dance crews. I’m not an NYC native, but I’m fully aware that things like this are part of NYC culture and it’s a damn shame that it’s getting taken away. There’s a difference between peacefully dealing with a situation and completely wiping it out – something the powers that be in the US never seem to get right.

Sneaker releases are a pretty big deal. Both for the brand and consumers, timing is key and sneaker heads like to be constantly updated. Unless you’re on the sneaker blogs daily, it’s pretty damn hard to keep track of it all. Foot Locker, probably the most popular sneaker store in the world, has a big week ahead. The “Week of Greatness“. 8 days (22nd – 29th November, and over 50 new pairs of footwear dropping exclusive to the store both online and in store. Yes, exclusive. Nike, adidas, Puma, Jordan. A Clash of Cultures with Red Bull

posted by on 03/11/2014

So, did you catch the action? Last Thursday we were invited along to Red Bull’s world famous Culture Clash, and my word was it crazy. A 20,000 strong sell-out crowd filled Earl’s Court for a night to remember of music clashes between reigning champs BBK, A$AP MOB, Stone Love and, the winners of this year, Rebel Sound. As the crowd moshed the night away, David Rodigan and co. tore up every round leaving the others not knowing what hit them.

Entertaining a 20,000 strong crowd, the innovative event hosts a clash of sounds as four groups battle it out to win. This year the lineup is as strong as ever. A$AP Mob, Boy Better Know (reigning champs), Rebel Sound (consisting of Chase and Status, David Rodigan, and Shy Fx), and Stone Love. Yeah. Ridiculous.

A Trip To Istanbul

posted by on 11/10/2014

Last weekend I had the pleasure of visiting Istanbul; a place I had been wanting to see for a very long time. It was a fun trip with my work over a weekend, so allocating time to travel around in a bigger group other than just me, myself and I, and all the beverage consuming sessions, meant that I had nowhere near enough time to explore the city as much as I would have liked. Safe to say however that in my short stay in Istanbul, it has to be one of the most amazing places I have ever visited. Rich in history and culture, Istanbul shows off its people, traditions, stunning landscapes and (quite terrifying) backstreets during the day. At night, the shisha cafes, coffee shops and endless amounts of rooftop bars get filled to the max. Take a gander at some snaps after the cut, and also check out an incredible short film documenting the rush of exploring Turkey. It’s a must-watch.

Y&Y Selections #1

posted by on 02/10/2014

The whole Y&Y team is big on music. With our weekly (or so) #Eargasms posts, we like to keep on top of new music and sharing this with you guys. With that, I have the pleasure of introducing a new music series from the team. Y&Y Selections is a playlist of 20 selected tracks of what we’re listening to right now. Simple. The power Soundcloud gives artists to share their music with the world is fantastic, and more often than not you’ll find yourself pressing play on a track from an artist you’ve never heard of before and end up voyaging down a rabbit hole of musical goodness. Click through, press play and have a listen to what we’re currently diggin’ in the music world.

A Visit To EGX 2014

posted by on 01/10/2014

My gaming days are slowly disappearing. When I say “gaming days” I mean a little more than a game of Fifa here and there. Still, my interest in gaming will always be there, albeit off the console as I watch gaming videos online and keep on top of upcoming releases to see how the gaming industry is developing as the years go on. It’s a hobby I invested in heavily growing up, and I don’t think I could ever just switch off (no pun intended). The world famous EGX (formally known as Eurogamer Expo) was in London once again last weekend and I thought it would be a fantastic time to visit my first gaming event. Big thanks to EGX for the access. Read on to see my thoughts of the event and some photos.
