Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

Y&Y Meets Raekwon To Talk F.I.L.A.

posted by on 22/05/2015

Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style was one of my top 5 games on the Playstation. I played it for hours upon end growing up. If you’re not familiar, it’s a fighting game with the members of legendary hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan. I had a go-to character like you always do in these games, and it was a guy in a hoodie with a boxing style of fighting. That guy was Raekwon, probably the most successful (and arguably the most talented) member of the Wu-Tang Clan. Only Built 4 Cuban Linx was a regular playthrough on my iPod and I, like many others, saw Raekwon as a legend in the world of hip-hop. You can imagine, then, my reaction when I got invited to meet him and ask him about his new album. I bounced around in excitement until the moment I walked in to the room. It was a brief chat, and there was so much more I wanted to ask him, but read on to see the Chef’s thoughts on his new album F.I.L.A.

Gravity Experiments by Clemens Wirth

posted by on 18/05/2015

Now, this is pretty awesome. Clemens Wirth, a director and visual artist from Austria, has created this beautifully fascinating short film experimenting with gravity and a variety of objects and materials. A simple idea that creates visuals you can’t take your eyes off. By simply rotating the rig 360 degrees, Clemens was able to create wonderful practical effects and behaviours from the subjects. A brilliant example of creating art from motion, all while keeping the camera completely still. Check out the video after the cut.

SpaceX Mars Travel Posters

posted by on 16/05/2015

These are brilliant. SpaceX, an American aero-space manufacturer and transport company, has just released these awesome vintage-inspired Mars travel posters. With the posters depicting – and showing off – various parts of the planet that we have discovered (and named), they make travelling to Mars a thing of the present time, not something that is potentially centuries away (still something that will happen, nonetheless). They’re beautifully designed and you’d struggle to not be excited about the future of space exploration and travel after seeing these. Check them out after the cut.

Nintendo World Championship 2015

posted by on 14/05/2015

E3 is coming, and if you’re a gaming fan like me, this will excite you. Three days before it, though, something exciting is happening. Nintendo needs a miracle to become cool again, and this just may do it – after 25 years, the Nintendo World Championship is back. Touring cities across the United States in 1990, with the final being held in Hollywood, the tournament got people involved of all ages as they played Super Mario Bros, Rad Racer and Tetris, battling it out to be crowned champion. With gaming being an online phenomenon now, Nintendo will likely open spectating up to everyone through streaming. Can’t wait for this. More nostalgia after the cut.

Jetpack Flying Over Dubai

posted by on 12/05/2015

If you could have anything in the world, what would it be?“. There’s a question we got asked a lot growing up. There was always one answer that always popped up, too – a jetpack. The video after the cut is probably the closest you’ll ever be to flying a jet pack, and it is simply breathtaking. Jetpack owner Yves Rossy flies through the skies of Dubai in stunning 4K in this dream-like video. Click through, press play, and hit full screen. This. Is. Amazing.

The Light Bulb Speaker

posted by on 12/05/2015

OK, so this is pretty cool! With the new Sony LED Light Bulb Speaker you can control the brightness of your bulb whilst controlling the music all from your smartphone, tablet or desktop. Being the casanova that I am (I joke) I can imagine myself cooking dinner for my date, sitting at the table changing the music to something smooth and dimming the lights as we endeavour to chat and get to know each other. Why this product has me imaging such a scenario I don’t know, maybe subconsciously I’m longing to date :(. Anywho enough about the woes of my personal life lol, currently the light bulb is set to be released in Japan on May 23rd and will cost ¥23,880 (approx. $199 / £130).

Climbing The Worlds Second Tallest Building

posted by on 11/05/2015

660 metres above the Earth’s surface. This is how high two men, without safety equipment, climbed to the top of the Shenzhen Centre in China. The building is currently under construction but will be the second tallest building in the world upon completion. Scaling the building however wasn’t enough for the daredevils who continued to climb the cranes being used to construct the tower. The On The Roofs clan are well known for their sweat inducing videos and this is no different, it’s racked up on over a million views in two days, check it out after the cut.

Casablanca by Kent Andreasen

posted by on 08/05/2015

As a keen photographer, you often find yourself taking shots that you didn’t initially set out to take. For example, you may well be out taking photos for a commissioned piece of work when suddenly something else captures your eye that is miles off the brief and direction you have been given. But you capture it. Because you just can’t help it. That’s the story behind this collection of images on It’s Nice That by 24-year-old South African photographer Kent Andreasen that I had recently stumbled across. On a trip to Casablanca for Nike football culture (this work is incredible also, by the way), Kent ended up shooting through multiple rolls of film in documenting the local area. The results are amazing. Check out some shots after the cut and more of his work on his website.

Kalle Ljung | Aerial Footage of Antarctica

posted by on 06/05/2015

The many dimensions of film is probably the most beautiful thing about it. I’ve been consuming a lot of video content lately, and it’s great when you stumble across something that makes you just stop everything else you’re doing and watch. Swedish filmmaker Kalle Ljung travelled to Antarctica on a 20-day voyage to capture some incredible footage on a Go Pro. Yeah, that awesome camera that seems to have no limits in what it can produce. Breathtaking visuals are the result of his efforts, and it’s well worth the watch, if only to see parts of our beautiful planet that many of us will never get the chance to. It’s thanks to creatives like Kalle that we can see these parts of the world in all their glory. Check it out after the cut.
