Throwback Thursday | Pokémon

Pokémon really was a hit, huh? The anime, turned card game, turned video game, turned movie, turned MEGA MEDIA FRANCHISE never stopped growing from the moment it was created in Japan in 1995. Can’t remember what it was all about? Well…it was essentially  about humans capturing wild creatures in balls and using them to fight against each other for the human to gain higher status in the form of a badge. Disgusting, right? Wrong. The world of Pokémon stole our hearts and we loved every minute of it. Read more after the jump!

Whether it was playing Pokémon on your Gameboy, or collecting and trading cards with your mates, we were all involved somehow. Our card collection grew and grew to a ridiculous rate as we did everything we could to get our hands on the shinys. And our thumbs developed some form of temporary arthritis as we battled our way through the gyms with our Charmander from Professor Oak that somehow turned in to some giant beast of a dragon. Whatever, it was fantastic.

The games aren’t available on iOS or Android (legally) and probably never will be, but, if you can be bothered, you can download an emulator to get the wonderful games on your desktop. I did that during my Uni days, and spent far too long playing the game when I should have been studying. Still, it was worth every minute to reminisce on the good old days of Pokémon.
