This week Dizzee Rascal dropped what is easily my favourite music video of the year so far to accompany Couple of Stacks, a track which featured on the Pagans EP released back in December. The video is a comical gorefest and not for the squeamish type, it’s wonderful to see such a creative video come out of the UK rap scene. Dizzee seems to have abandoned the toned down style that brought him pop fame, his delivery and flow in particular feel far more like they did ten years ago. Maybe, just maybe, we’ll see another classic like Boy In Da Corner released in the future. Video after the cut.
In what has come as a surprise to many Zane Lowe has announced that he is leaving BBC Radio 1 to go and start a new adventure in the US working at Apple. Zane has worked for the BBC for over 10 years so his leaving is actually quite monumental. Speaking about his departure the DJ had this to say “I want to thank everyone at Radio 1 for their support and friendship…..The station has allowed me to share incredible music with the country’s best music fans. I’ve loved every minute of it.”. Annie Mac will take over his Monday – Thursday 7pm-9pm slot from March 9th, this means that she will now vacate her current Sunday evening slot. Apple have done well to secure the services of Lowe and will benefit from his vast musical knowledge and general love and enthusiasm for music that spans across many genres.

I Love Ugly continue to impress with their latest drop of relaxed but technical and sophisticated apparel, as they put it, “good design needs room to breath.” The seem to have mastered the art of making garments that make a statement while remaining minimalist, and unlike some brands, they know how to shoot their stuff. I’ll definitely be making a purchase or two from this collection, check it out after the cut.
AllSaint’s style a lookbook every month and you can shop the collection directly from it. What I love about this months is that it’s so clean but so relaxed. Standout pieces are the leather biker and leather bomber, but footwear comes through looking strong too. Don’t be put off by the grumpy looking model, check out the full lookbook after the cut.
We all have too much than we need. It’s a fact that we do not think about enough. And we should. And so should brands while they rake in their millions, instead of spending 4.5 of those millions on a 30 second TV ad during a sports game. Some brands already do their bit, though, and unless you’ve been living under a rock when it comes to brands being charitable, you’ll be fully aware that TOMS is right in the thick of things. Their One for One campaign has been going for a while now. Primarily known for their shoes, TOMS gives a pair of footwear to a child in need every time you buy a pair. Now with their new bag collection, TOMS tries to tackle another issue. The issue that each year, 40 million women give birth in unsafe conditions and without the help of a trained attendant. That’s scary to think about. See what TOMS is doing to combat this after the cut.
I know, we’re not even out of this winter yet and I’m sure your don’t want to be thinking about the next. But on the plus side, it looks like Michael Kors will be dropping an amazing Autumn/Winter 2015 Collection in a pretty monochrome colour palette, just how a like it. The collection is clearly military inspired, as well as taking influence from the sports luxe trend and being a little preppy. Now I just need to find some spare cash… Check it out, after the cut.
So it’s Valentines Day tomorrow and we’ve got the perfect video. Not something you’d usually expect to hear from us at Yin&Yang but this is Shots of Awe and I’ll never get tired of Shots of Awe. Every video inspires thought and Jason Silva is just a captivating speaker. I want to let the video do the talking, it can’t and shouldn’t be described, just watch! After the cut.
Remember when children’s television was actually good? Like when Fox Kids still existed? If you’re 90’s born and liked your cartoons then you can relate. X-men, Spiderman, Batman, Beetleborgs, Power Rangers, Ninja Turtles, Transformers; the list goes on! Before they pulled the plug on this channel, they dominated the market quite closely with Cartoon network… I definitely got up at 6am some days just to watch X-Men and Ninja Turtles before school and I’m not ashamed :|. So this week’s throwback is dedicated to Fox kids, check the flipside for some nostalgia.
The other day we posted an awesome video breaking down the quadrant system used in Drive, this one’s a little more fun. Filmmaker Jacob Swinney has put together a series of clips from some of Quentin Tarantino‘s illustrious films to highlight the importance and effectiveness of sounds. We rarely take conscious take of every sound we hear when watching a movie, rather they slip into our unconscious and enhance our movie watching experience without us even knowing. However when these sounds are alienated from a scene they really come alive individually. Check it out after the cut!
