Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

Nissan | Ride of Your Life

posted by on 12/05/2014

In a bid to prove that their sedans can do more than drop off the kids at school every morning, Nissan lured a bunch of people to the Willow Springs Raceway in California for what they were made to believe would be the ride of their lives in Nissan’s “most advanced Altima race car”. After a few laps around the course, the driver pulled into the pits where passengers were given quite a shock. They looked on sheepishly as staff at the raceway dismantled the said race car to reveal a stock Altima car.  It’s a clever little campaign, watch after the break.

As winter’s grip begins to (slowly) thaw, the changing of the seasons calls for a crucial spring/summer wardrobe update. They say ‘the shoes maketh the man’ and the Slip-On Shoe is no exception. Check out our favourite pair from the TOMS SS14 collection after the cut…

Crossroad of Realities

posted by on 09/05/2014

What is reality? There are many complex ways to define what is real but modernity continues to disrupt previous notions of the concept. Benoit Paille uses the medium of photography to  disturb reality further, in the projects description he writes that his aim was ‘to overlay a material reality with a virtual one.’ The stunning result makes it difficult to tell where the virtual reality ends and the material one begins. It’s hard to believe that the landscapes are taken from Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V. The in-game screenshots are followed up by some complicated processes that go over my head but can be read about here. Would love to see someone use the idea in a game like Assassins Creed and shoot some rooftop action, endless possibilities. More after the break.

TENS – The Real Life Photo Filter

posted by on 08/05/2014

Smart concept and great timing since the world is all applying filters to ‘selfies’ and make yourself look better. Tens brings everyone’s favourite Instagram filter effect to real life – why not view the world you want to see it? The brand breathes a bit of life into the market where much hasn’t changed in the past 50 years. Watch the video after the cut to see how the brand came to life and what they’re all about.

Intimate Self-Portraits by Melania Brescia

posted by on 08/05/2014

Incredible. So intimate, such beautiful composition in each and every one of 22 year old Melanie Brescia‘s self portraits. Each one is deeply expressive, filled with emotion and energy. It almost feels like each portrait gives us a different look into the personality through the intimacy of the shot. From moments of vulnerability, loneliness, longing and heartbreak. I can’t even bring myself to take a self portrait but she’s made me want to explore my new camera’s wifi feature to see what I can create. It’ll probably be a silhouette shot though, would I get as much Instagram likes as a beautiful young woman? Probably not haha.

Clarks – A Shoe for the Summer

posted by on 07/05/2014

Summer’s nearly here, and if you’re anything like me you’ll be happy about that until it arrives and then look forward to Autumn. However you’d also be thinking about what you’ll be wearing on your feet when the sunny weather arrives. While we know footwear is footwear, we also know the right pair is needed for the right occasion and style. After being mighty impressed with the diversity of their mens Spring/Summer ’14 collection, the lovely people at Clarks agreed to let the Y&Y gents take a pair each for a spin on a glorious day in the even more glorious Richmond Park. Six dudes, six pairs of shoes, six different ways to achieve effortless style in the Summer. Read on to see them all.

Percival Menswear: Made In London: The Story

posted by on 06/05/2014

It’s such a rarity to come across a brand that produces their collection in London, heck even manufacturing in the UK is a rarity nowadays. Percival Menswear pride themselves on producing as much of their collections in the UK, often working with manufacturers based in the London area. This short film takes a look at one of the smaller factories in East London, Mr. Khan and his team have been making Percival clothing for a couple years now. Head on after the cut to see production process behind two Percival key pieces – the Melton Western and the Sherlock Jackets.

“Moon Games” By Laurent Laveder

posted by on 06/05/2014

Moon Games” is a photography series by a French photographer Laurent Laveder; she knocks together a collection of quirky photographs where the Moon is the focal point of imaginative landscapes. Each crisp photo features the silhouette of a person interacting with the moon (or a setting sun in some shots) in its various forms. Some of my favourite shots from the series include the moon sitting in a wheelbarrow and the rising moon resembling a balloon. I remember trying to hold the moon in my palm all the time when I was a kid… true story! Check out the rest of Lavender’s Moon Games after the break.

Defining a Prodigy

posted by on 05/05/2014

Here’s some Monday morning inspiration that I stumbled upon a few days back, funnily enough it’s great content created by a church. Elevation Church’s short film entitled ‘Defining a Prodigy‘ looks at why you get up in the morning/stay up extra late at nigh doing what you do. Passion. The fuel for your dreams. What will you do this week? Watching this clip has been a wake-up call to get things back into gear on the site. With our day jobs becoming more and more demanding, it’s easy to let Y&Y slip under the radar but all we need to do is take a step back and realise it was the reason we have the job in the first place.
