These are incredible! the level of detail in each of these shots is exceptional, the off-camera flash technique perfectly captures each rain drop as well as the mysterious ghostly silhouette. Japanese photographer Satoki Nagata has certainly mastered this technique over the past two years, I’ve never seen anything like it before. He actually moved to America after gaining a PhD in Neuroscience but only to drop his job to pursue a full-time career in photography without any formal education in the field. Brave – wish I had the balls to do that. More imagery on the reverse.

“I started by taking candid street photographs but soon after I realized that I am really interested in photographing the individual person. I chose to take photos closer and more connected to the subject. I engaged with the people on the streets and my style gradually evolved. When I got closer and developed intimate relationships with people, the images were different in comparison to those previously taken from a distance. This oriented my photography towards a more documentary style.”
