Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

#HyperJapan – Eat Japan

posted by on 17/08/2013

Hyper Japan is the UK’s biggest celebration of Japanese culture, bringing together elements of both traditional and contemporary Japan to London (the easiest way to experience a slice of Japan without jumping on a plane). As YY’s resident ninja, I jumped at the opportunity to cover the 3 day expo held at the end of July in Earls Courts. Check out the full story after the cut.

Ashton Kutcher’s Acceptance Speech

posted by on 15/08/2013

Now that’s more like it, a celebrity that talks sense. It’s refreshing to see a Hollywood actor use an opportunity to influence the younger generation with something profound and thought provoking. At the Teen Choice awards over the weekend, Ashton Kutcher came up to the stage to accept an award and instead of doing the usual: ‘Thank you guys for everything’ speech, he decided to inspire the audience with a few lessons he had learnt over the years as Chris Ashton Kutcher. Watch after the cut.

Throwback Thursday

posted by on 15/08/2013

There has been much speculation surrounding Danity Kane and their possible reunion. First we saw pics of the girls meeting up having lunch and then we saw pics of them in the studio, both sending fans into a frenzy. Today saw the girls release a countdown timer on their website. A countdown timer for what you may ask? Well here’s hoping it’s for the official reunion announcement. The have a newly formed group twitter account that follows their old manager Johnny Wright so who knows maybe he is behind them once again. Here’s hoping for some good news on the 25th but for now lets reminisce and get into their first released single ‘Show Stopper‘. Watch the video on the flipside.

England Matters – Episode 1

posted by on 13/08/2013

Now this is what you call great football content. Some of you may remember the The Chance – Undiscovered documentary that I posted a few months back, this is along similar lines following the path of the England National team as they prepare for next year’s big showdown in Brazil. The first part in the series takes a look into what Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and striker Daniel Sturridge did to prepare for England’s two friendlies in June against Ireland and Brazil at the Maracanã. It’s nice to see a different take on the usual – the pre, during and post game clips give us a deeper insight into the player’s lives. Watch on the reverse.

MA.Strum AW13 Collection

posted by on 13/08/2013

Where aesthetics are concerned, I’m not immediately taken by this collection but I do appreciate the styling and colour palette. MA.Strum have put this lookbook together with the view of focusing on innovation and functionality- pushing with classic sportswear inspired outerwear using hi-tech fabrics and technology. For them it’s function first, and then style and here there is a healthy marriage of the two. But it’s the photography that stands out, these images albeit simple, are cleverly shot giving the lookbook a more lighthearted feel.  Check the imagery after the beak

Illustrator Tim Wolff or Tim Robot produces fun and playful illustrations that represent the street art and culture of his hometown, Berlin. With a string of collaborations recently, once again River Island do not disappoint. The seven prints balance a street and skate look, making them a great casual option and refreshing alternative to some of the dire t-shirt prints on the high street. The Pixel Painter

It’s amazing what we as humans can overcome. Hal Lasko is 98-year-old graphic designer who worked as a typography designer back in the days when everything was done by hand. Wet Macular Degeneration is a condition which makes a person suffer from blindness in the centre of their eye. Hal unfortunately suffers from this condition however this impaired vision hasn’t stopped him from continuing to create art. Following his retirement from his job his grandson taught him how to use Microsoft Paint, Hal now spends up to 10 hours a day creating wonderful pieces of art known as pixel art. Take a long at this short video showcasing his work and be inspired by his determination to not let his vision consume his life.

Beats by Dre – Run Club

posted by on 08/08/2013

After years of breaking earbuds during his workouts, LeBron James teamed up with Dr. Dre in creating Powerbeats earphones; the only earphones engineered to deliver premium sound on the court, in the gym, or on the streets. Derek and I were able to try out Powerbeats for ourselves as we were recently invited to Beats Run Club at Lee Valley Athletics Centre where we took part in a training session with Olympic sprinter Adam Gemili, who at just nineteen years of age, is one of Team GB’s most promising athletes and looks to be amongst our best medal hopes for Rio 2016. More on the flipside.
