Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

MinBox Vs Dropbox

posted by on 11/05/2013

LMAO i’m already in love with MinBox and I haven’t even used it yet. I’m in love because while promoting their file sharing service they have managed to make me actually laugh out loud with their short video which compares them against Dropbox. The funny clip advertises the “Freakishly Fast” file sharing capabilities it possesses whilst highlighting and mocking Dropbox’s inadequacies in comparison. Tipped at being 5x faster that Dropbox, MinBox is currently in private beta however you can register your email address to receive info on when you’ll be able to get full access to the service. I urge you to watch the video on the flipside even if just for the comedic value. Sign up for MinBox here.

Sara Byrne’s Double Exposure Portraiture

posted by on 10/05/2013

Just incredible and guess what, it’s not done on analogue. All digital baby. It’s a technique that originated in film photography where you expose the same frame twice and has been replicated in digital through post-processing techniques. Sara utilises the feature on her 5D Mark III (it’s also available on the Canon 6D) to create this incredible set of double exposure images. The silhouettes combined with nature look incredible, you could quite easily replicate this style for a series of urban architecture shots. More on the reverse.

Throwback Thursday

posted by on 09/05/2013

It’s that time again where we take you back. Back to a time when music wasn’t all about euro dance beats and generic, RnB had soul and Hip-Hop had a bounce to it. Back to a time where the union of an RnB artist and a rapper was refreshing and brought fans of different artists together. Some artists found their music soul-mates and would work with each other on numerous occassions. Ja Rule & Ashanti, Missy & Timbaland, Mase & Diddy, Lil Mo & Fabolous. The latter is the subject of this weeks Throwback Thursday and with this I want to take you back to the year of 2001. 2001 may not seem like that long ago but it has been 12 long years since we were first introduced to a Lil Mo & Fabolous collaboration. Step back in time with us and enjoy ‘Superwoman’

Film Review | Star Trek into Darkness

posted by on 09/05/2013

J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot was a surprise hit back in 2009, satisfying diehard fans as well as being accessible to newcomers. Four years on, the follow-up Star Trek into Darkness is one of the most anticipated films of the year. Thankfully, the sequel takes everything that was great about its predecessor and amplifies it, in doing so producing an entertaining thrill-ride of a movie that is one of 2013’s must-see blockbusters.

Expression

posted by on 07/05/2013

Now that we are all family, I’m going to let you in on a secret: I start every day by listening to Labrithin’s version of Express Yourself. Every. Single. Day. The how it started I barely remember. I think it had something to do with getting in the zone before an interview (that’s just how I roll). The why is simple. For me the ability to express yourself accurately is the foundation to forming your identity. Expression is what we use to define ourselves, and make sense of all the things around us; to give our thoughts and feelings shape. For me, that’s what Y&Y is all about: expressing the love of this city, and the things that define it, through as many creative avenues as possible. This is what I love about the creative industries, and why I have chosen to work in it. More on the reverse.

Kilian Martin – India Within

posted by on 06/05/2013

Just incredible. Skateboarder Kilian Martin teams up with director Brett Novak to create this beautiful skate film in India, it’s a mixture of mind-blowing skateboard skills and stunning scenery around Northern India’s most well known sights such as Taj Mahal and the River Ganges. I love the way they’ve fused the scenes into it, flows naturally between shots of Kilian’s tricks. It’s made me want to visit the mother land, I’m sure it’s made you want to as well – India’s another world. So big, so much to see – I need to head back and photograph ALL of it at some point in my life.

This week, it’s all mine. It doesn’t look like anyone else has come across any eargasms worthy songs. I’ve probably added over 20 tracks to my library which is more than I have done in the past few months. I’ve got a bit of J.Cole, Hawk House and Kenzie May. Get ready.

Henry Hargreaves – No Seconds

posted by on 05/05/2013

I stumbled on this rather intriguing photography project from Henry Hargreaves who captures the last meals of prisoners’ sitting on Death Row. I’m not for capital punishment but that’s a whole different beast of debate that we won’t get into right now. What would your last meal be? I know for sure mine would be all chicken everything – curried, fried, grilled, you name it. Fingers crossed that meal won’t be any time soon. It’s interesting seeing the crimes and home towns of the death row prisoners and comparing to their choice of dish. Have a gander on the reverse.
