Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

Throwback Thursday

posted by on 16/05/2013

Saturday morning I woke up and I heard the sounds of some 80′s funk and it got me up dancing in my room like I was in a club so I sat at my computer and laid my claim to this weeks Throwback Thursday 5 days in advance. I hope this song with get you up throwing shapes in your room like I did because I think it deserves it. Although I wasn’t born when this song was released in 1981 I pride myself on being able to recognise good music before and during my time on this planet so be prepared to go way back in future weeks. I’m thinking 60′s Etta James, Otis Reading, Marvin Gaye, Jimmy Hendrix, The Beatles and Johnny Cash but before all that lets get back to the 80′s and enjoy Carl Carlton’s ‘She’s A Bad Mama Jama’

Kevo Keyless Lock

posted by on 15/05/2013

Is there no end to what smartphone are capable of? It seems the possibilities are endless as long as you have people that come up with innovative ideas to expand their use beyond just making calls. Kwikset have done exactly that by coming up with a novel idea which makes opening a door even easier. Kevo is a keyless lock which synced with your smartphone and enables you to unlock your door with just once touch. In addition to this the owner is able to send electronic keys (eKey) to others which will enable them to open the lock too thus eliminating the hassle of having to meet up and exchange keys. If you don’t own a smartphone fear not as Kevo also works with an electronic fob that comes with it when purchased. All fob, eKeys and main lock can be monitored via the use of the Kevo mobile app. Unfortunately the Kevo will only be compatible with iPhone 4s and iPhone 5 although I presume broader compatibility will soon follow. For more info regarding Kevo please visit kwikset.com.

Reflection #2

posted by on 14/05/2013

So it’s a little harder than I thought to write a Reflection post on a daily basis. Why? I don’t know, I guess I’ve been trying to do what I said in my last post – find balance. Four weeks on, I’ve come to a conclusion that doesn’t exist, especially in this day and age. There’s always something coming into your world to unsettle your life but I have no right to complain about that. Truly grateful for where I am right now, my new job is challenging, tough and creatively satisfying since I’m working on projects that I enjoy. Now I realise not everyone can say the same about their jobs, it’s all about finding what you enjoy, taking a risk and going for it. I was a drop out a few years back with poor A-Level grades and family who didn’t quite get what I wanted to do. I still don’t think they get what I do. More on the reverse.

River Island Autumn/Winter 2013 Lookbook

posted by on 14/05/2013

The good folk over at River Island have released the lookbook for their upcoming 2013 Autumn/Winter collection. Acid wash jeans remain a staple piece in the collection but the have been partnered with wool jumpers, coats and warmer bomber jackets to better suit the change in weather conditions. Colour is provided throughout the collection offering consumer a varied colour pallet as opposed to the common blue, black & grey colour scheme that often tends to filter though during the colder months. We can still showcase our personality through our clothes via the use of textures and colours. Bring on winter I say, although living in London means that it’s winter almost all year round so they might as well release this collection tomorrow lol.

New York + London: A Collection of Double Exposures

posted by on 13/05/2013

I always say it’s hard for Londoners to feel too homesick in New York City. While the cities of course have stark differences, it’s impossible not to draw parallels between the two cities. New Yorker and photojournalist Daniella Zalcman makes those parallels visual with her new project, New York + London: A Collection of Double Exposures. Adding to the many innovative Instagram projects, Zalcman shares over 100 images of the double exposed photos from all corners of both cities. Check out some more after the flip.

City Academy Singing Workshop with J Marie Cooper

posted by on 13/05/2013

“Show them how funky, strong is your fight. It doesn’t matter who’s wrong or right!” Name that tune? If you recognise those famous lyrics then consider yourself cool. I was blessed with the opportunity to attend a singing masterclass at the prestigious City Academy with an insanely talented redhead known as J Marie Cooper. Now I’m telling you, this woman has some of the fiercest vocals I’ve ever heard – the kind that will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up as your jaw-drops right before you give her a standing ovation.

I dig this week’s selection, a nice mix of alternative, hip-hop and mainstream. You know how we do, always eclectic – it’s good to switch it up. It’s never about listening to the same genre over and over again till it all sounds the same. As one of my friends says ‘add some spice to your life!’ haha. Enjoy.

Tyrsa’s Hand Drawn Typography

posted by on 12/05/2013

I’m late. Stupidly late on this graffiti artist come illustrator known as Tyrsa who’s hand drawn typography and lettering may be the best I have ever seen. Screw your Photoshop text tool, this guy’s work with his pen and pencil is way more detailed. With a portfolio that boasts agencies and brands like BETC Euro RSCG, Publicis, DDB, Sid Lee, Carhartt, Ofive TV and more, Alex Taeib hasn’t compromised his design style by keeping visuals consistent with a unique aesthetic. View more of his work on the reverse.
