Throwback Thursday

posted by on 30/05/2013

A little later than intended comes our lastest insatallment of Throwback Thursday. Last week we had the musical goodness that was Ideal’s ‘Whatever’ and this week we contiune with the 90′s theme but this time take it in a Hip-Hop direction. Still very R&B influenced thanks to the vocals of R Kelly we have Diddy formally known as Puff Daddy and his track ‘Satisfy You’. If you don’t recognise the song i’m pretty sure you’ll recognise the beat, take a listen on the flipside.

Lifeloggers

posted by on 30/05/2013

Over the years we have been accustomed to the notion of documenting and sharing our lives with ourselves and others. For some people creating scrap or memory books or Excel spreadsheets have become a permanent process in order to quantify or qualify the day to day happenings in their life. Many will consider creating Excel spreadsheets or creating scrap books as a little excessive or simply long and boring but what we fail to realise is that we are logging our day to day journeys without even realising. Things such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter allow us to do keep a record of what we are or were doing on any given day however some of us just don’t think of it that way. More on the flipside.

Fiddle Oak Photography

posted by on 30/05/2013

Now I have been using a camera from a very young age, as a kid my Dad would put me on his shoulders, give me his camera and I would be able to take pictures from a better vantage point or over a crowd. I have always enjoyed taking pictures however I have never taken the time to really educate myself on the technicalities, my skills are still fairly basic. So when I came across the work of fourteen year old Zev or Fiddle Oak, I was shocked. Six years younger than myself and his photography shows so much creativity,  thought and skill. With a lot of editing and manipulation his photography has an amazing fairytale feel with each image overflowing with magic and wonder. Such great work from someone so young got me thinking about that fact that as we get older society tends to kill many peoples creativity, Ken Robinson did an excellent TED Talk titled “Do schools kill creativity?” in which he discusses this topic.

Gutted @ Stratford Theatre Royal

posted by on 30/05/2013

Following the chaotic lives of the Prospect Brothers, Gutted explores the various paths and choices in which they take in the pursuit to succeed and be loved. The staging consisted of mirrors surrounding the characters, which also reflected the auditorium of audience members, which was very striking. Symbolically, it worked extremely well as it was as if a mirror were reflected onto society.

Trust

posted by on 28/05/2013

Last Wednesday was one of those days that us city dwellers dread the most. Now, this is not to say that those who choose to live in the leafier sections of our country don’t fear random terror, or worry about the safety of their loved ones. You would have to have a heart the size of Tottenham’s trophy cabinet (BOOM!) not to be shocked by the brutal murder of a young man going about his business; not to be concerned that a man who came back without harm from a war zone, wasn’t safe in the streets of South East London. But us in the city know that to survive, to stay sane, our communities are built on a level of trust.

Malta Is More | Preview

posted by on 27/05/2013

Man, what a weekend. I’m sure most of you have already seen these images but thought I’d share with the non-Instagram readers as a preview of what we’ve got coming up on the main site. I spent the past few days in Malta courtesy of their tourism board along with 35 other online magazine founders/bloggers from around Europe. Easily one of the best trips I’ve been on, such a beautiful little country which was the complete opposite of London in terms of lifestyle and it was great to connect with like-minded individuals from our EU neighbours – France, Germany, Spain & Italy. It’s funny how the scene is the same everywhere. Full feature coming up over the weekend as soon as I get through editing 2000 photographs.
