Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

Mod Men: 21st Century Look At Mad Men

posted by on 09/04/2013

Last Sunday saw the return of Mad Men onto our TV screens for its sixth and penultimate season. I’ve only been a fan for a couple months after religiously watching all 65 episodes in the space of 8 days. The good folks at Shutterstock have compiled a list of comparisons between what work would have been like for Don Draper and co if they were heading to work in 2013. The impact the show has on pop culture has been remarkable from the fashion to the whiskey drinking. Let me wear my tweed blazer to work today. Hop on over after the cut.

Topman Demin Spring/Summer 2013 Lookbook

posted by on 09/04/2013

Either I got big or Topman sizes got smaller because I bought some jeans over the weekend and those muthabitches do not fit at all :(. My aim was to buy a grey washed out pair but instead I ended up with a khaki green pair and some sneakers (I can’t help myself when it comes to footwear). Although I couldn’t find any grey jeans at the time, Topman have conveniently released their 2013 Spring/Summer Demin Lookbook which features the exact kind of grey jeans I have been looking for paired with an accompanying jacket. Denim has been a big look for the past couple seasons and it is showing no signs of slowing down. Every season brands are introducing fresh takes on the basic Denim Jacket and different wash finishes for the trousers. Acid wash seems to be the focus for Topman this upcoming season.

Boom. It’s here! The Roshe Run, one of Nike’s best silhouettes from recent years has been added to the Nike iD roster. The minimal aesthetic and affordable price tag is what has made it so popular – well that and all the colourways on offer. I warn you in advance, you’ll sit there for an hour at work and play with the multitude of colours, patterns and material options. Click here to head on over to the Nike iD site to customise your own pair for £95.

Jonah

posted by on 07/04/2013

I’m rarely excited by a UK film; BFI, Film4 and Shine Pictures Present Jonah by Kibwe Tavares. If the trailer is anything to go by, we’re in for a visual treat. It kind of reminds me of Life of Pi with the exotic location, humour and CGI. The film received great reviews at last year’s Sundance festival so I’m definitely looking forward for its release in the UK at some point (It came out in the US in January – wth!?). The film centers around Mbwana and his best friend Juma are two young men with big dreams and those dreams become reality when they accidentally photograph a gigantic fish leaping out of the sea and their town turns into a tourist hot-spot as result. Watch the trailer on the reverse.

The Hackney Project

posted by on 07/04/2013

In an era where mass-production and consumerism go hand in hand, it’s nice to see a platform that focuses on the independent designers, craftsmen and women who’d like to push out a product into the world. The Hackney Project celebrates all of this and gifts the designers yearning for a breakthrough. Each submission goes through a strict checking process which includes analysing aesthetic finish and quality. The design of the site is slick and clean, mobile responsive version works really well. Check it out here.

SUDA – Noodle Month

posted by on 07/04/2013

Apparently March was the month of the noodle (don’t worry, I was equally oblivious) so myself and Nike headed down to YY favourite eatery SUDA to celebrate the infamous noodle with an authentic Thai masterclass.

Stars & Dragons Live @ Richmix

posted by on 05/04/2013

After releasing her EP in December last year, Juliyaa held her first headline show at Richmix, Shoredtch on bank holiday Monday. As you might have seen us banging on, the night featured special guests Dionne Reid, Nick Brewer and Wilson. DJ Ace from 1xtra spun the decks whilst Eke Bravo (who is funny as hell) hosted the show and Desperado’s sponsored. More after the break.

Glasgow Girls @ Stratford Theatre Royal

posted by on 04/04/2013

Based on the true story of seven teenage girls, Glasgow Girls follows their on-going pursuit for justice, as they find themselves at the forefront of an on-going fight for the rights of the children of Asylum seekers. The core element of the piece was the solidarity between the seven feisty campaigners, an element that easily could have been overshadowed by all of the other components of the production but luckily was not, and this is due to the dynamic performances of each cast member.

Dope Quote #57

posted by on 03/04/2013

Pardon me for being a day late with this post, I’m going to try and bring this back as a regular first day of the week post. If all goes to plan that is. Alas, I came across this quote in a recent talk that I watched about a man who was born with no limbs transformed his life into what it is now. He won with the hand that he was dealt with, a reminder to be thankful for what we do have. It’s something that I personally forget on a daily basis – especially in the mornings en-route to work. We complain about the weather, the grey skies in London, TFL but comparing that to what others have – it’s more than what we need. It’s easy to forget in the heat of the moment, take a step back, remember how blessed you are. Give thanks on a daily basis – best way to start your day. Hop on after the cut if you want the image above in a higher resolution.
