Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

Dr. Martens – #FIRSTANDFOREVER A/W 2013

posted by on 24/04/2013

It’s been a while since I bookmarked this collection to post, during the hiatus and some how let it slip under my radar when the site relaunched it. Dr. Martens have gone through such a strong rebrand in the past few years, a new more youthful led campaign with familiar faces and a strong visual narrative based upon the subcultures. Dr. Martens is a brand that has been adopted and subverted by a countless numbers of subcultures and sects of society in its history, in fact when I was growing (grand old age of 24 now) – the brand was most popular amongst the Camden goths and punks. Prior to that it was mods, skins and stylers, right now we don’t really have many subcultures. It’s the age of the individual, thanks to the rise of the internet and social media – we’re all hipsters. Whatever the heck that word means. More on the reverse.

Twitter #Music

posted by on 24/04/2013

Twitter #Music is a new music recommendation & sharing service brought to the masses by the forces behind the music loved social media app Twitter. Provided in the forms of an app and  website the app is designed to help users discover new music. The service scans Twitter conversations and detects talked-about tracks, organising them into four navigation tabs – Popular, Emerging, Suggested and #NowPlaying. In addition to those four categories there is also a ‘Me’ section which displays artists that you follow. The #Music’s charts are created from daily Twitter activity emphasising the idea that ideas need to tweet to be heard however unfortunately only verified artists can be heard as the app doesn’t allow users to listen to music by those who are unverified. Yahoo! Weather iOS app

posted by on 23/04/2013

Yahoo! Who even uses the search engine anymore? I’ve got an account just to use Flickr, which is still the best gallery space for photographers. Marissa Mayer‘s company have been under going a complete shift since she took over as CEO in September 2012. As you already know, Apple’s native weather app is quite restrictive and doesn’t give you much apart from the temperature. iPhones have been using Yahoo‘s data for their weather, stocks and Siri data for the a while and now they’ve decided to release this beautiful app for the world weather buffs. It’s possibly the most elegant app I’ve seen in a while, wonderful UI that utilises crowd-sourced Flickr imagery for the backgrounds combined with wonderful typography and weather pictograms. It’s already made it to the first screen of my iPhone – screenshots after the cut.

Lookbook | Harry Stedman

posted by on 18/04/2013

It’s always nice to introduce a new brand or at least a brand that is new to me. Some of y’all will be familiar with the name Harry Stedman as a clothing brand but for me yesterday was my first encounter with the clothiers. The brand have been around since 2011 so why has it taken me so long to clock onto their come up? Well one reason may be the fact this is their first official lookbook. What’s good about this particular visual presentation is the fact that they haven’t tied it down to one specific season but instead have chosen to display and present all of their wares to date in a pro-narritive lookbook. A lookbook that follows a young Harry Stedman (the inspiration behind the brand), sharing an insight into the delightfully roguish character that helps to shape the brand today. Peep the lookbook after the cut.

Throwback Thursday

posted by on 18/04/2013

It’s 1976 and the idea of bringing little DJB into the world hadn’t even crossed my mothers mind yet this is the year i’m taking you back to for todays Throwback Thursday. Well actually I’m only taking you back to mention Norman Connors and his song ‘You Are My Starship‘. I wanted to mention the man who provided the foundation for what todays TT. For if it wasn’t for Norman recording this song then we wouldn’t have it’s remix/cover/refix or what ever you want to call it by Dazz Band. The Dazz Band version is definite a family favourite and will without a doubt be played at extreme levels of loudness at any given party. I’m gonna need for all of you to turn your speakers up and get bounce with the groove lol. Just let your head bop, your shoulders bounce and enjoy.

Man of Steel | Trailer 3

posted by on 17/04/2013

I rarely post trailers unless they’re brilliant and this is just that. Well anything Christopher Nolan touches tends to turn to gold these days. This final and extended trailer from the upcoming Superman movie has gassed me. The beautiful visuals matched up with an equally as impressive narrative and soundtrack is vintage Nolan. Who else is excited for this release? It’s got the cinematic vibes that Dark Knight gave me last year which I personally prefer to the Hollywood blockbuster feel of Avengers and Iron Man series.

Blackmeal – Marvel

posted by on 17/04/2013

I still won’t grow up, I’m a grown ass kid. One of my favourite Kanye lines of all time and one that I can certainly relate to. We’re often reminded to think like a kid, with their innocence and imagination – cartoons are still a good way to do so. Marvel has always been the one, see if you can recognise all the superheroes in this brilliant animated short from Blackmeal. So well executed.
