Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

We’re back again. You’re probably reading this as you kick start your day and if you need any new song recommendations for your week then hop on after the cut. We’ve got a plethora, from the Gatsby soundtrack to Janelle Monae and more. It’s a good one for your ears. Anyway, how would you like us to switch up Eargasms? Let us know if you have any suggestions for us.

The Great Gatsby soundtrack is shaping up to be quite a solid piece of musical noise. Contributions from Lana Del Rey, Beyonce, Andre 3000, Emeli Sande and The XX sees the set hotly anticipated from many music enthusiasts. Here we have The XX’s contribution to the piece, delivering what only The XX can deliver. Very much in tune with what the have released in the past, ‘Together‘ is quite minimal in its production. Anytime XX come together to make new music it’s always a good thing. I know for a fact Yin is loving this tune.

I haven’t heard from Josef Salvat for a while so it was nice lil treat when I came across this new tune. Is it just me or does this song give you a XX kinda vibe. I can’t help but think of The XX when i hear this tune, never the less i’m digging this track a lot. The production and his vocals work extremely well together along with the lyrical content, this song is just pure musical goodness!

Electric Lady

A Janelle Monáe and Erykah Badu collaboration is always guaranteed to turn some heads, and with ‘Q.U.E.E.N’ – the funky first single off Monáe’s upcoming third studio album, The Electric Lady – the two divas display just how much that attention is warranted. The track blends a rhythmic guitar with catchy lyrics, and if that wasn’t enough, the breakdown in the last couple minutes minute feature a fantastic Monae rap. According to Monáe, this track is “meant to make you jam”, and in that respect ‘Q.U.E.E.N’ succeeds. The Electric Lady can’t come soon enough.

Tidal Tendencies

Formerly known as A Yellow Man, Hawk House are back again. They’re masters at the Houdini-esque disappearing act, coming into the scene with new songs then disappearing for 5-6 months with no whisper of what they’re doing. New name but same flow, that old school flow and production is something I’ll never stop loving them for. They’ll be releasing a mixtape next week, so hold on tight. Click here to watch one of their other video releases, one more coming in a few days.

The End is Near

Black Hippy crew’s twisted theorist dropped this track earlier this week, much to my surprise featuring frat fame boy Mac Miller. Ab’s flow is much more ranty here whereas Mac may just win this one for me, monotone Earl-esque flow balances out the track. Oh not forgetting to mention, the tracks produced by Mac too – the kid’s talented.

Get Lucky

I know I posted the original in last week’s Eargasms but I just had to share this pitch shifted edit by a YouTube user. All he’s done is changed the pitch a little and Pharrell’s vocals sound remarkably similar to the King’s, Michael Jackson. The “He-hee’s”, “Woo’s” , “shamonas” and other MJ sounds developed on their own when he sped the track up. Crazy. Makes me wish MJ was alive to collaborate with them.

Now have a listen to Daughter’s cover. Beautiful. So different, so them.
