Nicole Lavelle - Word Up Project

I think all of us at Yin & Yang would agree that we love all that is creative and very often simplicity is the key. As part of her Word Up project, Nicole Lavelle offers to handwrite something, or should I say anything, for you. It’s as simple as that. As an English student I really appreciate the power of words, but it doesn’t take some old twerp droning on from the front of a lecture theatre to understand what Nicole Lavelle is doing here. She’s creating a piece of art that is both personal and new every time. A favourite poem, family saying, a list of places you want to travel to or a song your mum used to sing to you are just a few of the suggestions she has but really you have freedom to choose whatever words you wish. That’s the beauty of art, right? Freedom to create and express oneself.

Not everyone is blessed with attractive handwriting, mine has been blasted by every teacher I’ve had since I can remember and for good reason. Nicole Lavelle is more than just a pen and paper though and she is not unfamiliar with creation, her online portfolio is bulging with years of hard work that you should definitely check out.

Have a gander below for some of the work from this project, I hope it can provide some inspiration for people to try something similar for themselves. I know Master Yin is often critical of typography so I would love to know what he and everyone else thinks of this. Most importantly however, what would be your choice of words? Poetic, sentimental or full of profanity? Let us know!
