Breakfast @ Electric Diner – Portobello Road
posted by Yin on 04/12/2012

Oh boy, I’ve had 5 back to back early starts. Usually I’d fit in a lie in on a Friday night but an early morning shoot in a frozen forest ruined my sleep plans. However a breakfast invite to Soho House’s new food spot on the other side of London wasn’t one to turn down. Soho House Group have teamed up with Chicago chef and restaurateur Brendan Sodikoff to open the Electric Diner, next door to the Electric Cinema. I do apologise in advance for the lack of imagery, I had to leave my camera at home in order to attend a film premiere last night. More on the flip side.

I knew I wasn’t going to be the only person who wasn’t able to do a lunch time due to work constraints. Unfortunately for me, Monday is a no/low carb day in my cycle so I wasn’t able to enjoy the toast. I opted for salmon and scrabbled eggs, leaving the toast behind. Initially cutting carbs out was difficult but after a few days I realised why it was worth it. I can live off 4.5 hours sleep with no post lunch slump! Boom. Try it sometime, you’ll feel much more fresh.
Back to the Electric Diner. It’s definitely one of those places that you can use for all times of scenarios – dates, breakfast/lunch meetings, dinner with parents and drinks in the evening. It’s all about unfussy combinations of the best ingredients, quick and friendly service and big tables for sharing. Open from 8am for Breakfast with a French-American menu and all-day menu takes over from 12pm. It’s definitely worth checking out.
Ugh it wasn’t blurry on Instagram.
