Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

Review: Kendrick Lamar In-Store Performance at Rough Trade, London

posted by on 12/11/2012

It’s 6.20 on a Friday evening, I’ve just got off work early and I’m power-walking to Brick Lane’s Rough Trade to catch Kendrick Lamar perform at his in-store, album promo gig. It’s a long way from the Black Hippy rapper’s hometown of Compton, L.A., and a hella lot colder. But Kendrick walks on stage prepared for London’s weather in a long duffle-style padded jacket and a beanie with the symbols love, money and peace embroidered on the front. Surprisingly punctual, Kendrick Lamar received a lot of love from the crowd – an excited, loud mix of music lovers who had all purchased a copy of his new album, ‘good kid, m.A.A.d city’ in order to attend the event. Hit the jump to read more about his performance and to see pics…

John Lewis – Christmas Advert 2012 'The Journey'

posted by on 10/11/2012

I rep John Lewis so it’s only natural that I bring to you their EPIC new Christmas advert. John Lewis don’t often advertise on TV but when they do they always make it a special affair. Last years Christmas ad “for the gifts you can’t wait to give” was ranked in the top 5 of  numerous best ad lists and I have no doubt that this new ad will be no different. Head on over to the flipside and watch the lovely journey a male undertakes to buy his female companion a hat and scarf to keep her warm during the very cold winter months. A sweet little story to warm the heart aww lol.

Nike | Cristiano Ronaldo – Signature Collection

posted by on 09/11/2012

A little too sporty for Y&Y? Never. Over the past year, I’ve started to embrace sportswear again, that doesn’t mean I still don’t dress like a Mad Men character from time to time. It’s good to experiment and even combine the smart and casual look. Nike have teamed up with Cristiano Ronaldo to create a collection that represents his approach to life. I could go into all the technical details and breakdown each piece in the collection but would that be interesting to read? Nope. I’ll leave that for the copy and paste blogs/sites to take it from Nike’s press release here. Y&Y has never been about that, more on the reverse.

Story(us) by Already Alive

posted by on 08/11/2012

Story(us) is a short film by Already Alive, the inspirational piece tells a story through people of all different races, backgrounds and walks of life. Story(us) outlines the evolution of storytelling as a collective. It also reinforces the idea that any human experience is a story, connecting and informing people. These are the makers of ‘Make History‘ a collective telling of goings on of 9/11, the site features plenty of imagery submitted by those who were in and around the affected areas as well as those around the world. The film is neatly composed with solid imagery, rich editing and captivating storytelling. I also love the intro with the assorted cast, it carries a positive message- It’s a very interesting film- a must watch.

Throwback Thursday

posted by on 08/11/2012

Following the untimely death of Natina Reed, once of Blaque fame, I thought it would be best to dedicate this weeks Throwback Thursday to her and her former band. Blaque was an all girl trio who released music in the late 90′s, they were championed  by Lisa Left Eye Lopez from TLC and were signed to Columbia Records. Head on over to the flipside and see what musical goodness awaits.

Velare Imaginarium – Wedding Storytellers

posted by on 07/11/2012

Ah all of you already know about my love for wedding photography and cinematography. It’s always been for the love-filled and slightly cheesy visuals. Velare Imaginarium, a couture cinematography team from Colorado create short films for weddings are really something else in comparison to others I’ve seen in the past, it’s quite avant garde (trust me to use a cliché term). They have quite a distinct style of filming in comparison, choice of non-cheesy soundtrack and grading. The colours aren’t warm as you’d expect weddings to be playing on the theme of loe and all. More on the reverse.
