Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

Newly Proposed Housing For London's Homeless

posted by on 21/11/2012

Now this is what I call a good idea. Hawse (Homes through Apprenticeships With Skills for Employment) have revealed their joint proposal with  Levitt Bernstein architects to renovate and bring life to unused garages in London turning them into temporary living spaces for the homeless. The London borough of Hackney, who this proposal was specifically aimed at, have taken this on board and are looking into it. Each garage house will cost £13000 to set up with the aim to letting them out for £50 per month excluding utilities. I personally think this is a great idea and if all works out then it should be rolled out across the country. What do you guys think?

LoveHate Social Club Launch

posted by on 21/11/2012

Tattooists, music enthusiasts, hipsters and Hells Angels made up just some of the crowd at the launch of Ami James and Huey Morgan’s new tattoo studio in Notting Hill. Those of you who are familiar with hit television series Miami Ink and New York Ink may know Ami James as the charming, bald headed, hard man with an exceptional tattooing ability. While Huey Morgan has stood as frontman of band, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, for almost twenty years. The two long term friends have come together in this joint venture to open LoveHate Social Club and if the launch party is anything to go by, it is going to be one hell of a fun ride.

Andre ZoOm Gives Away Books For Stories

posted by on 16/11/2012

The universe is made of stories, not of atoms. A quote I came across recently, a story helps one connect with another. It’s a blessing to be able to do so as everyone has a story, something that defines you and makes you relate to the next man. Twenty-year-old Londoner and author Andre ZoOm Anderson has chosen to share his in a new format via Tumblr utilising his typography and design skills into an enjoyable scrolling read about his creative journey. I suggest you click over here and start reading a few chapters on your way to work this morning. Having released four books over the past two years, he’s now eager to hear yours and in return he’ll send you a copy of his book. All you have to do is answer a question. What’s your story?

OTHERS – 13th Witness

posted by on 16/11/2012

I’m not the biggest fan of the iamOTHER series, the original advert featuring Pharrell and a bunch of ‘others’ was cringe worthy enough to put me off it. However the latest instalment of their YouTube series features the man who inspired me to pick up a camera 4 years ago, 13th Witness aka Timothy McGurr. The son of a legendary street artist, Futura is already a legend in my books – his ability to document his surroundings with a camera is unparalleled. If you haven’t followed him on Instagram then do so now, you’ll see what I mean straight away. This interview helps us understand how he made it all happen, why photography turned from a hobby to a career.

Tim Flach 'More Than Human' Exhibition

posted by on 16/11/2012

I’ve always been fascinated by the idea that a single well taken image can evoke emotions within you and nothing has reinforced that more recently than Tim Flach’s latest exhibition. ‘More Than Human’, an extraordinary collection of intimate studio portraits of wild animals that completely break from the conventions of wildlife photography.

Throwback Thursday

posted by on 15/11/2012

Sometimes, you just can’t beat a classic. It does not matter how authentic a cover may be – in this case, it was a pretty decent rendition of the song in question – the ‘magic’ of the original cannot be recaptured. What covers can do, however, is prompt a revisit to the original. One of those songs that are recognizable after the first 10 seconds, the combination of funky instrumentals and beautiful vocals always makes for enjoyable listening. But it’s the message – brought to life by the fantastic music video – that has ensured the song still resonates after 18 years. There will probably be a few more covers of this song in future. Some will be better than others. But sometimes, you just can’t beat a classic. Hit the jump to check out this week’s Throwback.
