We sat down for a coffee with the London-based photographer. There’s even a 2 Chainz reference.

Yin Eats: yaki – Japanese Bakery

posted by on 01/10/2012

If you work by Goodge Street, Oxford Circus and Tottenham Court Road then you have to take a trip to yaki - a new Japanese bakery that has just opened up by my work place. I discovered it last Monday and have already returned 3 times! in the space of 5 working days. Indicator of how special it is, right? Yaki is a contemporary Japanese restaurant which specialise in Okonomi-yaki, a savoury omelet and rice burgers. More on the reverse.

I can’t say I’ve ever heard of an Okonomi-yaki before paying a visit to the spot, it’s a healthy savoury omelet that is mainly made up of cabbage, a variety of chopped vegetables, flour, egg and various toppings of your choice such as teriyaki chicken, beef, fish and more. Usually I get the lunch deal for £5.95 which contains an Okonomi-yaki, salad of your choice, a stick of tatsuga chicken and a drink. The tatsuta chicken is other worldly, food-gasmic goodness. Sadly not pictured here as they were sold out on Tuesday!

I opted for the Teriyaki (pictured above) which was freshly made on the day, sits on the hot plate waiting for you to take it away. A hella lot better than my sandwich lunches, much more flavour, healthy and cheap. It’s like a Japanese version of a quiche.

For those calorie counters, these are only around 200 calories each. Cray.

Dorayaki dessert, couldn’t be bothered with the edamame salad as I wanted something to make up for the lack of tatsuta chicken in my belly. For those who haven’t had one of these before, it’s a tiny pancake filled with red beans and cream. A few different flavours to chose from, tasted just right. Yet to visit Japan so don’t know what an authentic one tastes like!

I’ll leave you with a few more imagery. I highly recommend this joint, it’s way way way better than spending £5 on a Pret baguette. Try something different for a change.
