Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

Lookbook | Gant Rugger Spring/Summer 2013

posted by on 18/10/2012

The saying goes “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” and Gant have certainly stayed true to this quote for their new lookbook. However I think they should have changed up the game just a lil bit. If memory serves me right the last time I brought a Gant Rugger lookbook to your attention they had the same setting as they have for this lookbook. The only difference is that the back wall is now a beige colour instead of the grey it was in the 2011 Pre Autumn Collection lookbook, see here. I’ve talked about how a lookbook can make or break my interest in a collection and quite frankly what Gant have to offer is too boring for words. Digging beyond the surface and actually taking the time to look at the clothes on offer rather than sitting here in disgust at the creatively stifled lookbook I can say that a few pieces have caught my eye. Take a look after the cut to see if anything is to catch your eye. Window shopping is always fun :)

Maison Martin Margiela For H&M Lookbook

posted by on 18/10/2012

In just under a months time, selected H&M shops across the world will have early am queues of Apple proportions, but this time with fashionistas as they eagerly await H&M‘s annual designer collaboration. This year it’s with Belgian fashion house, Maison Martin Margiela – a high-end fashion house who’s staple is to add opulence and luxury to vintage and everyday items, which usually come with a £500+ price tag. The Maison Martin Margiela for H&M collection starts at £19.99, and so you can see why this is a god damn big deal. Yesterday, with just under a month until the release, the lookbook was released. Parka jackets, slim suit trousers and smart jackets  for the boys; and asymmetric, oversized, ubersmart-meets-ubercasual for the girls…all in quite muted, traditional tones with a touch of sparkle here and there (well it is party season). Hit the jump to see the full preview.

Eastpak x Wood Wood – Desertion Backpack

posted by on 16/10/2012

If I’m honest, I haven’t really cared for Wood Wood in the past – foolish I know. The Danish brand is renowned for their Scandinavian minimal design aesthetic have teamed up with Eastpak to create the ‘Desertion‘ collaboration. Inspired by the rugged beauty of the North American landscape, the whole collection is all about textures from a plethora of different materials including suede, leather and canvas. The good folks over at Eastpak sent us one of the backpacks from the collection to play with.

Cool Runnings | Nike Run To The Beat Training

Nike Training Run-A-0459

Just under two weeks from Nike Run To The Beat (which I’ll be running with Derek & Candice), and five days away from my race in Amsterdam’s half-marathon, training has gotten real. I’ve been running for a while now, long enough that I should in theory – feel like a ‘real’ runner. However, I’ve constantly had that feeling of someone who is sort of…faking it. Read on to find out how last week I attempted to defy that feeling with my first consistent 10 miler since training has started and a 6 miler around EC London with Nike Running Club.

Major Lazer talk Red Bull Culture Clash | Y&Y Exclusive

posted by on 15/10/2012

Red Bull Culture Clash

“It’s something I take very seriously, it’s something that we’ve been doing basically all our lives,” Jillionaire of Major Lazer says of sound clashes. “It’s a major part of our history and our heritage,” Miami-bred, Caribbean descendent Walshy Fire adds. Sound clashes – the practice of DJ soundsystems competing against each other by playing the best beats, loudest sounds and catchiest dubplates to be crowned the best DJs by the audience – started in Jamaica’s dancehall scene and became an integral part of Britain’s underground music scene. Reintroducing the culture to the mainstream and opening it up to a whole new audience, Red Bull has rounded up four very different sounds – Major Lazer, Annie Mac, Boy Better Know and Channel One to clash in Wembley Arena on 7th November for the Red Bull Culture Clash. Read on for more information, and to find out how you can ‘Get On Stage’ with the big sound systems.

Dope Quote #53

posted by on 15/10/2012

Well hello there, it’s been a short while since I wrote one of these. I’ve got good reason for writing this one, facing a trial later with my first ever appraisal. I’m not too worried, though I did ask around for advice – not sure why since it’s going to be based on MY performance over the past 12 months. No one’s advice or words can change that. This week’s quote came from an ad that I walked by which features a time line of Abraham Lincoln‘s life, who knew he failed for 30 years straight? Before he finally won and became president. (see image on the reverse) One thing I’ve tried to do with Dope Quotes is keep it deeply personal, sharing stories from my life and linking to them to the quotes that really speak to me from the books and other pieces that I read. Call me an over sharer but for me – the more you reveal, the more people can relate. I honestly believe my past mistake, hurts and pain can help give someone else a future. What we’ve gone through enables us to help others. Sigh, I’ve kind of gone off topic! back on it on the flip side.

Lookbook | Jonathan Saunders Autumn/Winter 2012

posted by on 15/10/2012

Interesting lookbooks are what attract me to a collection. Sometimes the best of clothes can go over my head if the accompanying loobook is as dead as roadkill. Fortunately Jonathan Saunders suffers from no such fait, in fact the lookbook for their latest collection (2012 Autumn/Winter) is one of the most interesting i’ve seen for a while. It is giving me pop art/collage tease, taking me back to secondary art class #Nostalgia. The funky backdrops clash with the textures and unique patterns of the garments however the clashing doesn’t feel wrong. In fact the contrast between textures and patterns somehow makes the clothes pop giving a sense of 3 dimensional viewing. Fully into this lookbook, if not for the clothes definitely for the colourful creativity of it. Peep the rest on the flipside.

Mulberry – Brilliant Britain Launch

posted by on 15/10/2012

Thursday 11th October. Dear Diary, I’m feeling like Chuck Bass in the back of this cab en route to Harrods at 8am. All about this life, having barely slept last night, another 5:30am wake up to edit photographs – means I’m struggling to keep my eyes open. The lovely folk at Mulberry have invited us down to the launch of their new digital platform that celebrates the very best of Britain. Perfect timing as many of us start reflecting on the past 12 months soon and what a year it has been for us; Arsenal winning the Champion’s League, London 2012 Olympics and the Queen’s Jubilee amongst other things. Continues on the reverse.
