Maison Martin Margiela For H&M Lookbook

posted by on 18/10/2012

In just under a months time, selected H&M shops across the world will have early am queues of Apple proportions, but this time with fashionistas as they eagerly await H&M‘s annual designer collaboration. This year it’s with Belgian fashion house, Maison Martin Margiela – a high-end fashion house who’s staple is to add opulence and luxury to vintage and everyday items, which usually come with a £500+ price tag. The Maison Martin Margiela for H&M collection starts at £19.99, and so you can see why this is a god damn big deal. Yesterday, with just under a month until the release, the lookbook was released. Parka jackets, slim suit trousers and smart jackets  for the boys; and asymmetric, oversized, ubersmart-meets-ubercasual for the girls…all in quite muted, traditional tones with a touch of sparkle here and there (well it is party season). Hit the jump to see the full preview.

The 104-piece collection is released on November 15 (which is my birthday peeps!!!) and consists of re-editions of Margiela items over the past 23 years. For me the accessories, the cream oversized jumper and the metallic trousers are what stand out from the womenswear collection. The dramatic, oversized, billowing masculine shapes which are intended to be flattering on a feminine body…are in reality only flattering on the bodies belonging to the likes of Keira Knightly, and I can bet you an entire “maison” that none of the trousers won’t be long enough. The Menswear collection features some lovely slimline shapes, and the vintage-look ankle boots are great, but the high-end European quality isn’t jumping out at me…which it should, considering the label.
