Eargasms
posted by Yin on 30/09/2012
Gosh, I’m tired. A fortnight of 5 hour a night sleeps has resulted in non-stop eye twitching. Highly annoying! Alas, I’ve got a few audible treats for you after the cut. This week’s Eargams have been handpicked by myself, DJB and Tara.

JOSÉ JAMES
Seductive doesn’t even begin to describe José James‘ new track, “It’s All Over Your Body” taken from his EP/album teaser of the same name. Hot, sensual, titillating and almost explicit vocals from Brooklyn’s king of soul, layed over an incredible musical score from Chris Dave on drums, Robert Glasper on keys, Pino Palladino on bass (who you may recognise from D’Angelo ‘s Voodoo and Badu’s Mama’s Gun) and the amazing Takuya Kuroda on trumpet which somehow manages to echo tones of early Dwele and late Miles Davis. Incredible right?

FAT JOE x PUSHA T x MIGUEL x ASHANTI x TREY SONGZ
Fat Joe hits us with the remix to his newest tune Pride n Joy. The cut sees a number of collaborators including Pusha T, Trey Songz, Ashanti with Miguel being the only collaborator to feature on both the remix and original version. It has been reported that Kanye West who featured on the original has mixed the song 8 times so more remixes could soon see the light of day.

JADEN
I certainly wasn’t expecting that from the young Will Smith. He’s definitely a better rapper than his father was ever, in fact his laid back flow is reminiscent of Q-Tip‘s. I prefer this type of calm, chilled out Hip-Hop to 90% of garbage out there right now. I’m glad this 14 year old kid hasn’t given into the ‘swag rap’ nonsense. Looking forward to hearing more from him!

LLOYD x AUGUST ALSINA
Lloyd struts his vocals all over this Swimming Pools rework. Kendrick Lamar would be proud of what Lloyd has done with his tune, this doesn’t sound like a remix more a fresh take on an already existing concept. The song sees us being introduced to new singer August Alsina. The biggest complement I can pay Lloyd is that the song feels like his, Kendrick is definitely not missed. This is taken from Lloyd’s forthcoming mixtape so watch out for that, I’m sure we’ll be posting more songs from it in future Eargasms until then please enjoy this.

J.COLE x MAJOR LAZER
‘Get Free‘
J.Cole jumps on Major Lazer‘s euphoric song, Get Free with a verse that proves he still has the same hunger and spirit as his Warm Up days. Cole and Diplo/Switch is a union I never would’ve anticipated, and I think that his flow doesn’t quite match the beat….however, lyrically Cole smashes it and the song is one of my favourite from this year so it gets a thumbs up from me!!!!

FRANK OCEAN
There is no wrong that this man can do! Breaking boundaries once again and proving to the world that his talent is endless, Frank Ocean dropped a rap record this week which had the internet set ablaze! An incredible singer, sensational songwriter and now flawless rapper with his own, unique style….whats next for Frank? Whatever it is I’m all the way down!

FRANK WIEDERMANN x RY CUMMING
Cheating with this one, I’m super late with this song! around 5-6 months but it’s too good not to share. Not quite sure where to class this song by Frank Wiedemann, the remix alls under the following genres – house, jazz, classical, techno and ambient. Click play and ENJOY. I guarantee you’ll love it.
