A Conversation With Folaju

We sat down for a coffee with the London-based photographer. There’s even a 2 Chainz reference.

TWO INCH PUNCH

‘Broken’

This track from Two Inch Punch should have really featured in last weeks Eargasms but for one reason or another I didn’t include it :( But fear not because last weeks loss is this weeks gain. Two Inch Punch takes a stab a refreshing Jagged Edge‘s tune ‘Broken‘ and does an extremely good job. When ever I play this song I turn the volume up and just let the speakers knock, that the way music should be :)

CRONOS x LANDER KHADEL

‘Lightbulbs’

BOOM. Vibes from London-based DJ and producer Cronos has teamed up with Lander Khadel for this beautiful version of a classic, the whole arrangement just works for me. Click play on the visuals above, turn up the bass and zone out. It’s captivating – you need this in your library.

WILL.I.AM

Hoola Hoop

Many despise Will.I.Am as a result of his recent contributions to music, but love him or loathe him he is a great producer and he does churn out some good pop songs. Adding to his discography and third single from his impending album ‘#Willpower’, is ‘Hoola Hoop’. It’s got a great beat, a conventional club beat with Will.I.Am’s signature heavy bass and futuristic/video game-ish sound. I can see this becoming a chart hit.

LLOYD x WALE

All of me

Lloyd makes some serious tunes. His music has matured over the years and now what he delivers is grown and sexy music. This is the second collaboration with Maybach Music Group signee Wale. Wale does his thing with a very nice flow while Lloyd handles the vocals. Great chill out song, one of those you just play in the background and jam to.

DAWN RICHARD

Wild N’ Faith

I’m cheating a little bit with this one; I’ve selected this because of the video more than anything. Dawn Richard who is independently funded, sticks to her tribal warrior theme for her latest video ‘Wild N’ Faith’ a mash up of two separate tracks. The video was directed by Eugene Lee Yang, a short film inspired by Joan Of Arc; the video is simply stunning. Very creative, very captivating and the track is very rich I production. Everything from the plain set to the choreography & arrangement to detailing in wardrobe right down to the message, rivals what we’re seeing on our screens from artists with label backing. Druski and Dawn seem to have great chemistry in the studio much like Timbo and Missy back in the day! I look forward to Dawn’s debut album ‘Goldenheart

LECRAE x BIG K.R.I.T. x ASHTON JONES

Mayday

Allow me to switch it up from the pop and R&B! nothing beats a good hip-hop song. I’m not the biggest fan of Christian rap and it’s mainly down to the poor production but rapper LeCrae is changing all that with his up and coming album ‘Gravity’. I think it’s going to change a lot of people’s perceptions of Christian rap from what I’ve heard of it so far. ‘Mayday‘ featuring fellow rapper Big K.R.I.T. is strong effort, conceptually and lyrically. It’s got hit written all over it, hopefully makes it way onto radio. Happy Sunday!
