Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

Danny Evan's Celebrity Make-Unders

posted by on 04/08/2012

Hahaha hilarious set of imagery from New York-based artist Danny Evans with this series of celebrity make-unders. Evans has combined imagery of people in everyday settings with the faces of famous singers and actors to give an example of what the ‘stars’ would have looked like had they not made it. Some serious Photoshop magic, Beyoncé & Jay-Z looklike church pastors from down south haha. I just had to share this one with ya’ll since I’m awake at stupid o’clock in LA with nothing better to do. Everything looks so awkward and aged, peep the amusing insight on the reverse. What he’s done to Rihanna will make you laugh!

Zara Womens A/W 12 Campaign

posted by on 04/08/2012

Following Yang‘s post regarding Zara‘s new campaign I thought it would only be fair to include the womens couterpart. Again taking a more editorial route the new lookbook showcases Zara’s latest offering in a ay that has never previously been seen from the brand. I personally love the new art direction behind their lookbook shoots and hope they continue down this route. What do you think? Does it make the clothes look more enticing compared to their standard studio shoots.

Zara A/W12 Campaign

posted by on 03/08/2012

I want to say this is the first time I’ve seen Zara branch out and do something outside of the studio. Zara being the brand that it is, studio shoots have always worked fine, because the styling has always been on point.  This time the high street retailer has embarked on the editorial route and produced a lookbook with somewhat of a narrative in black and white- my favourite! I’m really impressed. They’ve kept their usual approach where each ensemble is a simple casual/smart look and the photography is pure class, the photographer’s use of natural light has given the lookbook a classy feel. I don’t like turtle neck sweaters but somehow it looks good in the photos #gofigure. The rest of the lookbook after the break.

Hands Across The Sea | The Yard Theatre

posted by on 03/08/2012

Hands Across the Sea performed by Nina Feldman is a one-woman show that questions the distance between us human beings whether it be nationally or internationally. From sending postcards around the world, Nina wanted to see how many she would get back in return. This for me was one of the most engaging pieces of theatre I have seen.

Film Review | A Simple Life

posted by on 02/08/2012

Having made a clean sweep in all the major categories at the Hong Kong film awards, A Simple Life finally gets its UK release this week. Directed by Hong Kong veteran Ann Hui, the film depicts the growing bond between an ageing servant and her employer whilst offering a refreshingly optimistic perspective of life in the face of inevitable death. Although its pacing may limit its appeal, the first rate performances by the two leads make A Simple Life one of the most moving films of the year.

Film Trailer | Paranormal Activity 4

posted by on 02/08/2012

The Paranormal Activity series is now at it’s 4th film. Much like the Saw series the first film was such a success that it prompted the studio to churn out sequels in order to capitalise of the success and popularity. As with any series of films there is a danger of becoming stale and reductive however there are no signs of this happening just yet and so Paranormal Activity 4 is just as highly anticipated as its predecessors. Take a long at the first full length trailer for the film which is slated for release this October. Will you be watching?

Throwback Thursday

posted by on 02/08/2012

I actually didn’t know this song existed until I saw it on on TV about a month ago, it’s my kind of jam. Such a funky hip-hop inspired production, the song writing is pretty basic if there is anything I could say I didn’t like. Songs like this are also great of examples why Whitney was one of the greats, this is hardly a belter and she’s mostly ‘talk-singing’ but it’s the smoothness of her vocals and how well they gel with the beat, not to mention her famous adlibs. Check out the video for ‘Fine’ after the break.

Film Review | Ted

posted by on 01/08/2012

With his live-action directorial debut Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy) utilizes the talking animal shtick once again with Ted, which features a talking teddy bear as its main protagonist. The premise is as ridiculous as it sounds, but thanks to the accomplished trio of MacFarlane, Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis, it is one of the more enjoyable comedies of the year. Having gone into this without having watched an episode of MacFarlane’s popular TV show, I found myself eager to see more of the director’s small-screen work.
