A Conversation With Folaju

We sat down for a coffee with the London-based photographer. There’s even a 2 Chainz reference.

Two weeks later and we’re back. Sorry for the brief hiatus but as ever we have song good ass music to make up for it. The XX, Robin Thicke, No Doubt and a few more. Sound good? Yeh I thought so too, y’all better read on and get to playing those songs.

THE XX

Chained

The XX can do no wrong in my eyes. Just click play and inhale the eargasmic goodness. Co-exist is going to be epic, I can’t wait.

ROBIN THICKE

Another Life

Robin Thicke knows how to make good music! When he mixes it up in the studio with Pharrell then you know it’s gonna be a good thing. There are some sets of people that just work well together Timbaland & Missy, Drake & 40, Kanye & Jay-Z and Robin & Pharrell. It’s as simple as that!

BENNY BLANKO

‘Ape Shxt’

No idea where Benny Blanko emerged from but I’m digging the futuristic sound filled with synths off his upcoming mixtape, Reek Volume 2. Please don’t compare him to A$AP – he’s got his own style, menacing and skittering flow just works with the synths. The visuals deserve a mention, beautifully graded and cut – no real storyline but Nicholas Heller and co have managed to make the typical grime video look good. Rapper on his estate surrounded by his ‘crew’…we’ve all seen it a plethora of times.

BLAKE MCGRATH

Motion Picture

For those who don’t know who Blake McGrath is let me break it down for ya just a lil bit. He is a successful dancer/choreographer and has worked with artists such as Janet Jackson, Ashanti, Adam Lambert, Madonna, P!nk, Britney Spears and many more. Along with showcasing he dance talents Blake has often tried and wanted to shed light on his passion for stepping behind the mic. I’ve heard a few songs from him however they have all been much more popier than what he has to offer with ‘Motion Picture‘. I’m not saying that the pop affairs were rubbish but they didn’t hit me like this song has. His falsetto in the chorus does it for me!! I love me a good falsetto.

NO DOUBT

Settle Down (Major Lazer Remix)

As if the original isn’t good enough! When I heard Major Lazer would be crafting a remix to it I already knew what to expect- a bass heavy, club ready track and that’s what they’ve delivered. I’m really looking forward to hearing the rest of this new album.
