Tahirah’s easily one of the most inspiring, most positive people in my life. She’ll bring a smile to your face even at the lowest of times and heck, we haven’t even spoken about how gifted she is. Her writing skills are something else but you should already know that from her posts. Get to know her after the cut. We’ve teamed up with Tandy of MadTatter Films who’s worked his magic on these videos; really capturing the essence of each family member. Also shout out to BKRY for hooking us with a dope sample! Summer vibes (we need it in the UK).

Your friend has just arrived in London from overseas, where would you..

Take them for dinner

Nand…no, I’m kidding. There are so many different places to eat in London so there are many answers to this question! One of my favourite restaurants is Chef Collin Brown’s in Blackwall, East London, which serves up gourmet Caribbean food.

Take them shopping

I’d take them thrifting in Portobello Market and to the little boutiques on the back streets of Portobello, Ladbroke Grove and Kensington in West London.

For a drink

We’d go to Satay Bar in Brixton. It’s a nice spot often full with a mixed crowd of young professionals. It’s one of the places that does well at challenging silly perceptions of what Brixton is, and the food’s yummy too!

Take them for some GOOD music

Hopefully a Livin Proof hip hop night or a Deviation will be on when they’re in town – they are two of the clubnights where you can just dance to good music, without pretension for the whole night.

Go for inspiration

I’d take my international mate to meet my friends for inspiration. I think it’s important to keep people around me who inspire me, and make me aspire to be the best version of me – so I’d probably organise a dinner party & invite all my friends – from my closest friends who inspire me on personal social levels, to my successful acquaintances, and the ridiculous talented & creative Y&Y family!

What do you bring to the Y&Y family?

SEXINESS! No. I kid. I really do. I hope to bring some creativity, great ideas, and laughs to the team.

Dream job?

I used to have an answer to this but I don’t think I’ll know what my dream job would be until I’m doing it! It’ll definitely involve me owning something, writing something, creating something and working with dope people.

If you ever left London, where would you go?

I’d go to somewhere quiet, idyllic and near the sea (probably the Caribbean sea). However, as a born-and-bred Londoner I doubt I could leave forever. I’d be back in the Big Smoke eventually – the draw of the hustle & bustle would be too great!
