Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

Film Review | The Dark Knight Rises

posted by on 20/07/2012

At the beginning of the year, you would be hard pressed to find a ‘most anticipated films of 2012’ list that didn’t feature The Dark Knight Rises. But Batman on film wasn’t always this popular; 1997’s Joel Schumacher directed Batman & Robin is widely regarded as one of the worst comic book movies of all time (and with good reason). Christopher Nolan managed to reinvigorate the franchise with 2005’s Batman Begins.  He went one better and set a new benchmark for superhero movies with The Dark Knight in 2008. With The Dark Knight Rises, has Nolan outdone himself again?

Filippa K Autumn/Winter 2012

posted by on 20/07/2012

It has been a minute since I checked up on this brand, I’m glad they haven’t changed their direction in terms of style and have been consistent in delivering lines that are classic and stylish. Overall, the Swedish label embodies style that is simple, clean and fresh- they’ve produced a lookbook that is quite simply that with a slightly vintage feel. For next season it seems Filippa K have headed for the clean cut casual-tailored look teamed with knitwear affair as per the lookbook.

ONA – Style-Conscious Photographer's Bags

posted by on 19/07/2012

You’ve probably seen my feature already, if you have and you’re not yet convinced by it then the videos on the reverse should do the trick. ONA‘s vision is to offer style-conscious photographers bags that are rich in detail, functionality and character, and that provide quality protection to our overly expensive camera gear. I’ll run out of superlatives trying to describe how great the bag is, just read my feature and click play on the videos after the cut.

Throwback Thursday

posted by on 19/07/2012

I’ve been cleansing my ears and soul from all he usual crap I listen to with ‘rock and roll‘ and ‘blues‘ music from the 50s onwards over the last few weeks (I’m back to listening to crap now though); so I’m taking this week’s throwback track all the way back to 1946. That year Louis Jordan recorded ‘Let the good times roll‘ a classic that’s been covered by a fair few musicians including BB King and Ray Charles… I have the BB King version. If you know it, you’re on the right path, if not…

Style Inspiration – Suits

posted by on 19/07/2012

I rarely watch TV and when I do, it’s usually running in the background as I ‘work‘ on my MacBook Pro like now. I’m actually watching episode 11 of season 1 right now as I write this post; only started watching the show on Monday night and it’s fair to say – I’m hooked. Not just by the suits, or the aspirational lawyer lifestyle (yes, I quite like it), or Meghan Markle but by the script and acting. All credit to the unsung heroes for putting together a fantastic cast, chemistry between the actors is amazing. Let’s talk style though, it’s made me want to dress up for work on a daily basis. There’s something about wearing a suit to work, the self-confidence that one can get from an item of clothing shocked me. You’ll feel like a bawse, Harvey Specter and co certainly look the part. More after the cut.

F*cknFilthy – FF2012/01 Lookbook

posted by on 18/07/2012

Now usually I don’t do this but this streetwear brand’s lookbook and collection was just too good not to post. Actually came across the lookbook via a Facebook photograph, a friend of mine liked the image so it popped up on my feed – little did I know the creator of the brand is also a pretty talented photographer – click here. FucknFilthy is the brainchild of Irish born, now Manchester based Joshua Gordon, who come up with the brand’s concept as well as carefully crafting the magazine-esque lookbook imagery. It’s so well put together -  everything works right, from the typographical choices to the composition, styling and print tee designs – it just flows.. All really consistent and strong. He’s definitely carried out his vision, must be amazing to see the fruits of your labour. More on the reverse.

Jill Scott At Somerset House

posted by on 18/07/2012

Gathered in the grounds of Somerset House on a (luckily) mild summer’s evening were an excited group of diverse Jill Scott fans, young and old. I say group, because unlike London’s other music venues, Somerset House doesn’t pack out their grounds like a Tesco Value sardine can…instead there was plenty room to breathe, dance and mime along to the multi Grammy award winner, and her support act Daley. A mix of seduction, comedy and soul, hit the jump to find out how Jill Scott made everyone (men and women) want to marry her…but made me “want that old thing back”!

Joel Sossa's Vagabond Lifestyle Photography

posted by on 17/07/2012

Young, free, loving life and living forever. That’s the theme of Mexico-based photographer Joel Sossa‘s work, he’s beautifully documented him and his friends carefree escapades in the countryside, filled with sunshine and freedom of the outdoors. He’s managed to capture the nomadic, vagabond life with natural hikes, camping and more with a camera. All these photographs shout ‘free‘ at  me, there’s something so calming and relaxing about his photographs. Doesn’t everyone want to live this lifestyle once in a while? I think it’d be refreshing escape from our city lifestyles. Check out his work on the reverse.
