Dope Quote #50

posted by on 23/07/2012

50th Dope Quote and here to share a video with you as I’m currently trying to pack for a holiday. Candice actually linked me to this around a week or so ago, since then I’ve probably watched it around 10 or so times to make me wake up and realise why I wake up every morning doing what I do. What motivates you? Someone asked me this question a few weeks back, take a few hours out to think about your answer – it’s a tricky one. I’ll leave you with the two lines from Kirk Nugent‘s poem - Pursue Your Passion: Discover your divine assignment and you’ll have no reason to retreat. Discover your passion and you’ll laugh in the face of defeat. Watch the full video on the reverse and start your Monday off right.

Film Trailer | Superman – Man Of Steel

posted by on 23/07/2012

A little late but hey! I left home around 7am on Saturday to head up north to shoot a wedding, got back around 11pm and guess what the first thing I did was? watch the Man of Steel trailer. It’s epic, almost it’s own short film, easily better than a lot short films that I’ve come across in my time. You can definitely see the Nolan effect in the 1:36 second trailer, has the cinematic feel to it. The teaser features beautifully bokeh‘d clips that don’t really give much away; the narration highlights the Kryptonian‘s purpose on the planet and what direction the film will be taking to explain the story. Watch the trailer on the reverse.

For those who have been reading the pages of Y&Y for some time now will already know that we’ve hooked on Etta and Raf’s talents for the longest (see here + here). Now this is hauntingly powerful awareness short. ‘As the Arctic melts, the rush to exploit its resources is startling – are you surprised? This is the world we live in, all about rinsing up the world’s resources with man’s infinite needs and wants. The hard-hitting Greenpeace campaign takes us on a trip around London with a female Polar bear who’s in search of food and a new home. The beautifully made short shows us the heartbreaking reality of hyper-consumerism and global warming. Visit http://www.savethearctic.org to take action on this Greenpeace campaign and help declare the Arctic a global sanctuary. Watch the short after the cut.

The latest in this summer’s Y&Y Festival Takeover season, this Sunday 22nd July is Appelsap, in Oosterpark, Amsterdam. With a line-up seemingly crafted by the alt-soul/hip-hop/dance hipster gods themselves, this is easily the festival I’ve been most excited about in the season! I’ll be heading over there for the Yin&Yang crew, so read on now to see the full line-up and what sounds I’ll be partying to.
