A Conversation With Folaju

We sat down for a coffee with the London-based photographer. There’s even a 2 Chainz reference.

Nike – Journey To Greatness

posted by on 07/07/2012

Another Nike post, sorry! A few more to come tomorrow after an event and I promise I’ll be done for a while. My old university, UAL have teamed up with the brand to collaborate on an exciting co-creation project which involved the graduates of UAL and renowned artist Dave White. The fruits of the collaboration are a collection of t-shirts to be sold at NikeTown London and 1948London. Oh man, this is the kind of collaboration that I’d have loved to be a part of, would have learnt so much more than sitting in a run-down building in Elephant & Castle watching a powerpoint slideshow. However let’s not get into the art degrees talk, more on the flipside.

Dave White and the Dead of Design at LCC offered guidance to the design graduates from some of the most well respected art institutions in the world – London College of Communication (LCC), Camberwell, Chelsea and Wimbledon (CCW), Central Saint Martins (CSM) and London College of Fashion (LCF). They were challenged to interpret athletic commitment, dedication and achievement at the highest level which resulted in t-shirt designs that encapsulated the passion, spirit and drive behind an athlete’s Journey To Greatness.

The final designs each have a very different interpretation from the original brief but that’s the beauty of art – everyone sees briefs in their own unique way. The mentor Dave White even contributed a design to the final collection which identified the parallels between artistic & athletic achievement and growth.

You can buy the tees for £35 each from July 14th. I want to create my own, can anyone recommend a printers please? Peep the creative process videos below, interesting watch. You can find the videos for the other colleges on the NikeUK vimeo page – I’m only posting LCC for obvious reasons haha.
