It’s here! 7 years after winning the bid, months after a UK-wide build-up, the 30th Summer Olympic games hit our capital city for London 2012. Like most cynical Londoners, amongst my many Olympic gripes I’ve had concerns about how the city will manage the load, I’ve been dreading travelling around the city on public transport (and London mayor Boris Johnson’s automated messages are NOT making it any better), I think the Olympic driving lanes are a disrespect, the Olympic mascots scare me (why do they have one eye, yo?) and I’m still waiting for somebody to tell me McDonalds’ sponsorship of the Games is a prank. However, watching excitement build as the torch journeyed through local London communities, and seeing Y&Y’s very own Eniola win as part of Team GB in women’s football on Wednesday, I can’t help but get caught up in the spirit of things – the games give us an opportunity to allow our city to shine, and show everyone just how brilliant it is. Tonight the opening ceremony kicks off, and if like me, you want to follow the Games the lazy way, hop over to Google’s Olympic page where they make finding out all the latest information easy-peasy. And keep a check on Y&Y for the 411 on all the cool events happening around the Games over the next few weeks.
