We sat down for a coffee with the London-based photographer. There’s even a 2 Chainz reference.

Y&Y Festival Takeover: Lovebox 2012

posted by on 15/06/2012

This weekend Yin&Yang kick off our festival season celebration with the coolest London festival in the calendar – LOVEBOX. Celebrating their 10th year, the 3-day festival in east London boasts it’s hugest line-up yet; including a set from founders and legendary DJs Groove Armada! We’ll be there in force, partying, soaking up the festivities and giving you the low-down on the weekend. Read on to find out what to expect from Lovebox 2012 and some quick tips if you’re Lovebox-ing this weekend!

Boasting the most eclectic line-up of any UK festival, Lovebox always manages to create a line-up which is somewhat utopian for music tarts like most of the Y&Y team – particularly myself and music snob Tara (for real, look at any of our Eargasms posts – you get the sense that it’d either be a BRILLIANT or TERRIBLE idea to get any of us to be on music selection duties at a shindig), and this year is no different. Here are a few I’m looking forward to seeing:

FRIDAY

Friday is the day for unadulterated skanking, with the line-up pretty much led by top DJs. Art Against Knives, Red Bull Music Academy and Rinse FM all host stages with acts and DJs including Giles Peterson, Toddla T, Mz Dynamite, Boy Better Know and Rusko. Hot Chip headline the mainstage.

SATURDAY

Boasting the most ‘commercial’ line-up of the weekend, performances come from Rita Ora, Maverick Sabre, Emeli Sande, Kelis, Little Dragon, with a headline set from one of my personal favourites, Friendly Fires. Groove Armada play their one-time only, 10 year anniversary set, while on the smaller stages, Norman Jay leads the Art Against Knives stage and Hospitality bring the D&B.

SUNDAY

Sunday is for the legends, with a headline set from Grace Jones and a mainstage performance from vocal powerhouse Chaka Khan. Lana Del Ray also features on the line-up, while Sam Sparro and Mika will also be performing.

There’s much more to Lovebox than the music, though. Yin&Yang will be covering the festival culture, fashion and art over the weekend so check back for updates. But before that, keep a keen eye on the Y&Y twitter over the next few while we tweet what’s happening in real-time.

And if you’ll be joining us (and the other 60,000 people raving it up) this weekend, here’s a few things to remember:

Check the weather forecast and bring a brolly! We’re all praying for a relatively dry and sunny Lovebox, but…we’re in London.

Don’t wear new/fresh kicks. Festival pumps or wellies only. Don’t wear your favourite…anything, either. It’ll get wrecked.

Get a map – make sure you check the line-up schedule and find out where the stages are located so you don’t miss your favourite acts. But don’t be afraid to get lost and just feel the vibe, either!

Bring cash. Bring suncream. Bring water. Bring a camera. Bring a smile. Charge your phone.
