Earlier this week, R&B superstar Usher celebrated the release of his 7th studio album Looking For Myself (read our review here) with a one-off, intimate London show at HMV Hammersmith Apollo – while streaming it live around the world on Usher’s VEVO page as part of American Express‘ Amex UNSTAGED series. Y&Y were in the building to watch the icon do his thing.
As I mentioned in this post, festival season is upon us, and Starwood Hotels & Resorts are making sure their members take full advantage of it! To celebrate the launch of their collaboration with Live Nation, Starwood Hotels & Resorts are giving SPG members the opportunity to become rockstars with 5 friends this summer at Hard Rock Calling on 14th July. Open to existing members and new, all you have to do to get involved is upload a picture of yourself on the SPG Rockstar Yourself site and pimp it out with the accessories to become the most outrageous rockstar you can. And you’ll catch some of the Y&Y crew being rockstars in the Starwood VIP pod next month at Wireless…but more on that later.

Festival time is upon us! And with the Olympics deading off any Glasto dreams, we over at Y&Y are going to be very British and make the best out of what we’ve got. Between blowing the dust off the Hunters and trying to work out how our iPhones are going to withstand a battering, I was able to grab some time with new act IAMACAMERA.

*In west Philadelphia born and raised, in the playground is where I spend most of my days*
Hmmm ok. Fresh Prince pun over. The good folks at Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation and Buzz Paradise invited us out to see what their city had to offer. Over the coming weeks keep an eye out on the features page as I attempt to breakdown the awesomeness Philadelphia was to us but for now here’s some foreplay after the cut.

Meh. I love Helvetica; it’s neutral stance, boldness and simplicity but I would have at least expected a little bit more originality from Pentagram. UAL decided to refresh its strategic and visual identity in order to represent the university’s growth and unity within between the six colleges. The previous design was created by the students which is totally understandable, some of my fellow alumni include Jimmy Choo, Henry Holland, Alexander McQueen and co just so you know there is a lot of talent on offer. This time, they opted to pay £48,000 for the redesign. 6 months of work and this is the end product?! More on the reverse.

The Nike Air Max 1′s are my favourite trainer series, ever. They go perfectly with every outfit, for both girls and boys and I regularly admire their sexy design and various colourways…from afar however. I just can’t justify spending the equivalent of a return flight to Europe on trainers, so I stick to my canvas plimsoles from Baseball and Skater clothing manufacturers. But a girl can still dream right? For Holiday 2012, Nike have released 4 suede designs in a deep purple, mint green, dusty grey and deep red. With contrasting grey and black accents and mesh uppers, it’s safe to say I am in love. The green and purple are my favorites…hit the jump to see more and a sneak peak look at the Lady’s A/W12 “Leopard Pack”…the Black ones are noiiiice!
Usher hasn’t released a great album since ‘Confessions’ but that is not to say he hasn’t had some hit tunes since then. This week saw the release of his new album ‘Looking 4 Myself’ (the third album since 2004’s Confessions). With the success of lead single ‘Climax’ it seems everybody was excited to hear what musical gems Usher had in store for us this time around. However this excitement and anticipation quickly started to dwindle once I heard the follow up single ‘Scream’. The album is out now and my ears were open to the musical journey Ush had planned to take us on. See what I thought of it on the flipside. Its review time :)

With the intense summer of sports ahead of us, Nike are hosting a series of challenges and workshops over the summer based on the ground breaking Flyknit technology; the outcome will be a real-life project that fuses sport, creativity and culture. The first workshop is based ‘sustainability‘ which probably isn’t the most appealing for you guys, the second one is all about ‘lightness‘ and calls up on short-film makers to take part in the 5-day workshop then create a film that’ll be later screened at a regenerated urban space in East London in August. More information on the reverse.

Yin&Yang will be working in partnership with Motionhouse to bring you exclusive information on up and coming performances and events. I was lucky enough to catch a rehearsal of the up and coming performance of The Voyage last week and have to say that it most definitely is a spectacle to be reckoned with, and that’s just from witnessing an hour long rehearsal.
