Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

Y&Y 30 Seconds | Eniola

posted by on 05/06/2012

I don’t think Eniola needs much of an introduction, most of you should know who she is! I remember when she first emailed asking to join Y&Y – it was at 3am, I was up watching a concert – had to double-take on my phone when I saw her name. First came across her in 2007 when she scored against my beloved Arsenal in the FA Premier League final in ’06. Hop on after the cut to find out more about Eni!

So You Need A Typeface

posted by on 05/06/2012

‘The message is always very clear and straightforward, the typography much more ambiguous and open for interpretation. I found that by utilizing an open typographic approach combined with the clear message many viewers have an easier time relating their own experience.’ – Stefan Sagmeister. The legendary designer couldn’t be more on point with that statement, people underestimate the importance of typography. It’s often disregarded as a not so important aspect of a project but to me, it’s vital to get it just right. I frequently get requests from folks asking me ‘what font should I use for this….?’ but I can’t ever answer that on the spot – spoilt for choice. I tend to browse around for hours in Photoshop till I find a combination that works just right. Graphic design student, Julian Hansen has come up with this detailed infographic to solve all your problems. More on the reverse.

Burberry 2012 Autumn/Winter Ad Campaign

posted by on 04/06/2012

For reasons unknown even to myself I have been holding off from posting this for the past few days. However I have spare time and thought i’d share it with y’all. I think by now you guys know that we are fans of Burberry (if only for their classic trench). I was searching the net last week and came across their new Ad Campaign for their 2012 Autumn/Winter Collection. I was immediately drawn to it due to its cinematic feel. I love the who monochrome stills from a movie vide it has going on. Creative director for the shoot Christopher Bailey and famed photographer Mario Testino have done an excellent job of showcasing the collection as well as drawing in attention to look at the images as a whole rather than just staring at the clothes. I get an art gallery kind of vibe from this shots, they wouldn’t be seen out of place in a photography exhibition. Peep the rest of the campaign as well as some behind the scenes shots after the cut.

BFI's Anime Weekend

posted by on 04/06/2012

BOOM! I’ve been on a serious Anime binge for the past few days. My aim for this Bank Holiday was to relax and that’s all I’m doing with back to back episodes of Code Geass and a few films including the latest Full Metal Alchemist installment. As I was walking from London Bridge to Waterloo, I spotted an Akira poster by the BFI which later led me to checking up on the site to see wha’gwan. The good folks at the BFI Southbank have dedicated the forthcoming weekend to enjoy Japan’s finest anime films. There’s a whole array of films being shown, hop on after the cut for a breakdown.

Dope Quote #48

posted by on 04/06/2012

Seeing as today isn’t a working Monday, I’d like to dedicate this Dope Quote post to the recent graduates. I came across this quote from American TV host Larry King earlier this week and it reminded me of my days as an intern. Most of you have probably finished university, relaxing at home and pondering what to do next. Well, I sincerely advise you to be still and figure out what you’re going to do next. If  you think going into a career job is a little too ‘intense’ for you right now and reckon working in on a retail shop floor….standing around for hours is better? Slap yourself. Go for an internship or better yet, make looking for a 9-5 your 9-5. Whatever you decide to do I urge you not to procrastinate and get side-tracked, it’s easy to get into a routine and lose track of your purpose. Be prepared to listen – when you do, you learn. Absorb like a sponge. I might actually write up a post regarding work soon, it’s nearing my one year anniversary of full-time work. Eek.

Google have put their skills to good use by creating ‘The World Wonders Project’ which gives you the means to discover around 132 historic sites all over world that you might have been dying to see! I’ve spent a bit of time on there and it really is a pleasant experience- if anything will spark a desire within you to travel, this would be it. Peeling The Earth From The Ground | Advertising Campaign

posted by on 03/06/2012

Rarely do I post advertising campaigns that aren’t from England. This one is just too freakin’ creative and so well done visually. I’m in awe of the design agency’s skills as it must have taken a hell of a long time to perfect the Inception-esque pealing off the city’s terrain from the ground. Of course it’s a metaphor representing Batelco, a Bahrain-based telecommunications company who want to highlight the turning of a page in its directory to reveal the location you’re searching for. The attention to detail is incredible, also love how they’ve mixed up the colours throughout the campaign. Does the campaign successfully communicate the convenience of using the new directory? See more imagery on the reverse.

Original Penguin x Way Perry

posted by on 03/06/2012

American brand Original Penguin have teamed up with Way Perry, renowned fashion stylist and fashion director of Man About Town and Wonderland Magazine to create this exclusive video to launch their Spring/Summer 2012 chino collection. It’s pure fun, the simplicity of the shoot is what I like about it. The multicolour bold backgrounds with equally as bright styling and goofy models. One of whom I recognise from somewhere, can’t put my finger on where – who can enlighten me? The video is part of a new collaboration series with a bunch of creatives from around the world – ‘Below The Belt‘. Each of the style connoisseurs have been asked to curate a number of unique projects like this one, hop on after the cut for the video.
