This Friday, I’m holding my first ever event (since my Uni days) in East London. Taking place at The Bells of Shoreditch, ‘About Time’ is an event put on by Ralph Hardy and myself, which is kind of dedicated to music lovers, without sounding too contrived. Essentially, I got tired of being subjected to Rick Ross’s music and his cronies poor dance moves in clubs. After some conversations with friends, it turned out they felt the same! I wanted to bring together Hip Hop and House/Bass via Soul music, which sounds a little confusing – but I’ll explain in more detail after the jump! ‘About Time’ takes place this Friday and I hope to see you all there!
I recently started working at a Social Media agency looking after numerous events, festivals, DJs and artists who fall more into the electronic category (no Guetta!!). After some research in my first week I discovered many of the artists and DJs had grown up listening to Hip Hop and R&B , and were quite influenced by the genres in their live sets. With the rise of Future Garage via acts such as Disclosure, and the cross-over of Hip Hop to Electro from acts like Lunice and Theo London…I found my Spotify playlist following a similar path…
After some conversations with my friend, and fellow music lover/snob, Ralph Hardy – I realised that other former Hip Hop purists were digging this new electronic vibe, and so thought that there should be an event to celebrate this holy matrimony…it was About Time! And so this Friday at The Bells of Shoreditch (opposite Basing House) on Kingsland Road we have Shy One, Ralph Hardy, Jamurai and Danny Wood spinning the best in Hip Hop, R&B, Soul, Electro, House, Dubstep, Grime, Future Garage and more! There’s a bit of blurb below, but all you need to know is it’s £3 on the concessions list before 11pm, (names to firstname.lastname@example.org before 12pm tomorrow) and there ain’t no dresscode!
It’s been a minute since a fusion of niche sounds hit the clubs on a scale like this but, it’s about time. Everything from Black Hippy Hip Hop through to the Silkie Electonic can be found thumping the walls of Bells Of Shoreditch from hand picked disc jockey selectors. Focusing on good music and good vibes rather than what everyone is currently bumping withno longevity, expect to hear the likes of Joy Orbison, Nguzunguzu, MF DOOM, Wu Tang, Aaliyah and A$AP, alongside some hidden gems! Brought to you by Ralph Hardy and Tara Jane Seton, About Time is for those who love shocking out, getting burst and most importantly, the music.
Have a listen to Jamuari’s live Hip Hop and Soul mix below, to sample the sounds, and hit us up on email for the £3 concession at email@example.com.
Ralph Hardy: It shouldn’t be news to you that the self proclaimed sire of Utopia does a lot the media realms, but it should be known that he is also one for the music quality, emotion and purity. Ralph Hardy will cater for those seeking that real as well as those wanting to bubble with the ’140′; All round nangness.
Danny Wood: Danny’s musical journey began djing on the pirate stations of London in the mid nineties. Garage was and still is Danny’s first love but there isn’t a genre that goes unlistened by the DJ, writer, photographer and filmmaker. A member of the PinBoardBlog family, expect to hear some audio treats both old and new from Mr Danny Wood.
Jamurai: Hip Hop addict, scratch fanatic and music lover, Jamurai will be delivering throwback funk, soul & hip hop gems for the 2-step crew. A follower of Turntablism and 1/2 of East London’s funk/soul night, Full Fat, Jamurai’s eclectic mixing skills will keep you on your toes through to the early hours.
Shy One: Coming from a strong musical line, her reception is nothing short of crispy. With her young heart and old soul, the music connoisseur produces a transcending output you can’t help but enjoy and respect in both her production levels and live shows.
