BEFORE you click play, you have to read my introduction. For a while Yang and I have felt the site has been too focused on ourselves and that’s how Y&Y 30 seconds was born – to shed more light on the Y&Y family. We’ve teamed up with Tandy of MadTatter Films who’s worked his magic on these videos; really capturing the essence of each member. Also shout out to BKRY for hooking us with a dope sample! Summer vibes. I don’t think he needs much of an introduction, we’re going to kick start 30 Seconds with Y&Y’s main man – the one and the only, DJB. Hop on after the cut.

Your friend has just arrived in London from overseas, where would you..
Take them for dinner
Busaba Eathai is one of my favourite restaurants right about now. If you want good food and a great vibe then I suggest you take yourself down to one their establishments. It’s not the cheapest place ever but then I think I’m saying that because my bill is always pushed over the edge because I’m a fat mo’fo who always over orders. My eyes are forever bigger than my belly.
For a drink
Is it strange that I haven’t been to many places to just drink. In fact the only time I’ve done that was back in Uni with a few friends. We random decided to go to Revolution Bar in Soho and drank the night away. I’ve got pics and videos that could so easily accompany this piece right now but I’ll refrain from doing so to spare the blushes of certain people lol.
Oh yeah wait! I to a bar called Mary Janes in Tower Gateway sometimes with my work peoples. Granted we mainly go there to dance but whenever there’s beats involved there’s drinks. Shots all round and some drunken mistakes *wink wink* (not really mistakes, cause I remember everything with great fondness haha).
Take them shopping
I don’t think you can beat shopping on Oxford Street. It’s such a staple part of London and I’d be serving the big LDN a huge injustice if I went shopping anywhere else. The Westfield centers are cool but you don’t take someone who has never shopped in London before to an indoor mall do you. Erm nope you take them to the streets of Central London and that is that.
Take them for some GOOD music
Location would not be a problem as long as I had my laptop with me. I have a ridiculous amount of music on my Mac, enough to service copious amounts of people in a club. With that said Live music can never be replicated or stored at home so with that in mind I probably direct peoples attention to Wired. For those that don’t know Wired is a monthly live music event, created by Y&Y Friends Michael Duke and Kate Bond. The have showcased the talents of many artists that have achieved mainstream chart success as well as those who are well on their way to becoming a star. Such talents include Labrinth, Jessie J, Rizzle Kicks, Ed Sheeran and Vince Kidd.
With a list of names like that I think it’s safe to say that Wired is definitely a great place to go for some GOOD music.
Go for inspiration
This may seem really cheesy but I don’t care. My brutha from another mutha Yin is honestly one of the most inspiring individuals that I know and he is actually tangible. If it were possible I’d place myself let alone a friend in the mind of this crazy dude. Alas we live in reality so I’d probably invite Yin along with me and my friend to go out and have some dinner at Busaba and then head off to Wired haha.
What do you bring to the Y&Y family?
You know how in every family there’s always a Crazy uncle or aunt, a golden child and a black sheep. Well I can safely say I ain’t no muthaf*ckin black sheep lol. I’m more like a ray of sun; I bring light to this team lol.
Ok let me cut the bullsh*t, all I am to Y&Y is a dedicated team member who like the founders share the same passion and drive to continually strive to make Y&Y a huge success. I’d like to think that I’m an integral part of Y&Y but then again I don’t want to toot my own horn. What I will say though is that I don’t see myself as a contributor to someone else’s site but more as an honorary founder. When I talk about Y&Y to people I refer to it as my site, my baby as opposed to a site a write for.
My utopian dream is to own and run a record label that is connected to my site Yin&Yang. The dream is to expand the many factors that come together to make Yin&Yang what is it and push the brand the be bigger than we could hope for. That would include the already mentioned Yin&Yang record label along with a Y&Y fashion line; this would cover our fashion interest.
Turning Y&Y into a full time job rather than a fun side project is a goal that, I think I can safely say, is something we all are striving to achieve.
If you ever left London, where would you go?
I’d go anywhere New York, Miami, Paris, Sydney but one thing is for sure I’d sure as hell come back to London J. London is home and at present I can’t see myself living anywhere else. Never say never though.
