Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

VERSUS | Announcement – British 10k Challenge

posted by on 29/05/2012

A few weeks back, Felix, an old friend of mine from Staffordshire University hit me up with an interesting proposal. He’s the founder of London-lifestyle site, Control The Riot, who also happens to be running the British 10k. You know we’re this is going right? Yep a challenge, my initial answer was ‘no’. Why? The same old, I’m Indian and we don’t do competitive sport. (except Cricket and I don’t like that sport either) Continues on the reverse.

‘I’m Indian, we don’t run and me doing this isn’t to win anything’. Blah, a week past and I hadn’t run. Pitched the idea to the Y&Y famalam and you know they aren’t going to turn a challenge down like I did. Our crewdem consisting of VLM alumni Candice and Sami, 10k and half marathon pro, Tahirah, Derek – who I’ve seen do 10 miles on Sunday’s and then there’s me. The weak link but come July 8th that’ll all change. Let’s do da ting.

To get things started Nike invited us down to Niketown for a gait analysis. I’ve been told to take this test by many runners but just couldn’t bring myself to running in front of folks inside a retail space haha. A gait analysis basically helps the running specialist understand your body’s movements (biomechanics) during running. It’s proven to help athletes run more efficiently and to identify any movement related problems (over/under pronation). In our case, it was to find suitable footwear for our running styles. Sadly for me, I’m quite special – ended up with a pair of structured shoes. They look like Hi-Tecs, that’s all I’m saying but if it’s going to improve my running – then why not? I’d wear Bata flipflops if they gave me that Usain-Bekele pace & stamina.

Sami’s Nike x Liberty Free’s

We were also introduced to Nike+ Running App on the iPhone which helps track your running, set challenges and so much more. It’s a must buy (click here) and in 2 weeks time, they’re releasing a brand new version with more challenges and wait for it, FuelBand integration. YES.

So over the next few weeks, we’ll be documenting our journey as the 10k grows closer. I need to start training properly otherwise I don’t stand a chance of reaching my personal target! CTR have called us out and Felix has already begun the banter – let’s do this. Guess what our crew is called? COOL RUNNING.
