Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

Throwback Thursday

posted by on 10/05/2012

A real throwback right here, I heard the song at a record store on Saturday and instantly Shazam‘d it as I’ve heard it sampled in a Jay-Z song. It makes the song for me, the infectious saxophone infused beat and Bobby Bland‘s soulful vocals. Beautiful blues – going to start researching into Hip-hop samples for my next few Throwback Thursday selections. Some real gems to discover, hop on after the cut to listen.

C&A's Fashion Likes Clothing

posted by on 09/05/2012

Who remembers C&A? I was never a fan but the brand have switched it up with their new collection usage of interactive social media with its Fashion Like program. I’ve never seen a brand utilise Facebook likes in a real world environment in such a way, very innovative. Folks who shop at C&A can now view and like clothing items via the retailers Facebook page (I can’t actually find it on there, might be country specific). The Facebook likes are then displayed in real time via the hangers on the actual items of clothing in store. Incredible! this is just the beginning of merging the online with the offline world. Converse Block Party

posted by on 09/05/2012

On 29th April Tara, Derek and I headed to the graffiti-covered Old Vic Tunnels in Waterloo, central London, to party with Converse and much of the grime scene’s finest for a Y&Y day out. Alongside a music line-up boasting Wiley, Skepta and P-Money were a gang of talented skateboarders and graffiti artists. The night’s best bits were all captured through Derek’s lens, with words from myself and Tara (Tara’s words are in italic).

Style Inspiration | The Men At Met Gala 2012

posted by on 09/05/2012

Slightly contradicting myself from a conversation I had yesterday with a friend about all the people who leapt onto Twitter yesterday morning to judge women’s dresses one by one. Blimey, that was a long sentence. I don’t get it, why bother negatively commenting on each and every dress? I know we all judge but there were a few folks that went about dissecting every outfit on Twitter. Straight unfollow situation. I digress, hardly anyone spoke about the plethora of dope men’s looks from the likes of Justin Timberlake and actor Gary Oldman. More on the reverse.

The Instagram Socialmatic Camera

posted by on 09/05/2012

Everybody is a photographer, or a least that’s what Instagram will have you believe. Over 27 million users on the iPhone alone are in current use of the app with that number hitting well over 30 million when you include android users. The next logical step would be to own an actual Instagram camera rather than just the app right? Well ADR Studio have gone along with this belief and have gone ahead and designed/produced this concept design. The have turned the Instagram icon into an actual camera called Instagram Socialmatic. Would you buy an Instagram camera? Peep more pics and camera specs after the cut.

Google Campus London

posted by on 09/05/2012

Quite recently, Google opened ‘Google Campus London’, a 7 story complex dedicated to bringing people together by creating general work space as well as offering open plan office space to start-up tech businesses. The venue features event space with a capacity of over 140 guests, 16 meeting rooms, 200 office desks, cafés’, a rooftop terrace and of course a whole building full of creative brains to learn from.  Google Campus proves to be quite useful for newly founded businesses; users can host a range of events from screenings to presentations to parties. Joining the Google community also allows access to a wealth of resources including mentoring, informative seminars and networking events. More after the break.

Music Video | A Yellow Man – 3000 Miles Of Youth + Bonus

posted by on 08/05/2012

Oh boy, this was worth the wait. Remember London-based group, A Yellow Man? Christ-fueled hip-hop group emerged into the scene in late 2010 with a promo video then disappeared, leaving us wanting to know more. I’m not a big fan of UK based Christian hip-hop heck even mainstream hip-hop as it just never really feels authentic. Their visuals back then impressed me and now with the help of Paul Akinrinlola of PDesigns, I’m blown away by the cinematography. The dynamic trio’s flow is immense, easy to listen to and no ignorant lyricism – such a rarity nowadays, the profound lyrics filled with positive thoughts and light production just work so well. I’m really looking forward to hearing more, haven’t come across ANYONE like them in the UK. More on the reverse.

Legacy In The Dust

posted by on 08/05/2012

If you’ve been in the borough of Hackney in the last couple of weeks, you would’ve seen “Land of Kings” posters shrewn across walls and cafe and shop windows. During Bank Holiday weekend, the multi-arts festival took place in 15 venues across Dalston with appearances and input from the likes of Red Bull Music Academy, Kwes, NTS, Speech Debelle, London Fields Radio and the W.I. group, the Dalston Darlings. Having been a Hackney resident over 30 years ago, my Mum expressed an interest in wanting to attend some of the daytime events so we headed to the BBQ at the Curve Garden, followed by the screening of the ‘Legacy in the Dust’ docufilm at Arcola. I was down for a good old MEATwagon burger, some decent reggae and a film screening, but never did I expect our visit to be so educational. Hit the jump for a brief insight into Hackney’s history and a trailer for the brilliant “Legacy in the Dust”.
