Party in the Eristoff Forest at Snowbombing Festival

posted by on 17/05/2012

Hailed as ‘The Greatest Show on Snow’, the annual Snowbombing festival takes place annually in the Austrian Alps in the first week of April. Originally set-up as an after-ski nightclub by English promoters in 2000, it’s since 2005 that Mayrhofen has hosted Europe’s biggest snow and music festival, and it’s since 2009 when Grandmaster Flash took to the Austrian slopes that I became really intrigued by the festival. 2012′s Snowbombing line-up boasted the likes of Dizzee Rascal, Labrinth, Chase & Status, DJ Yoda, Shy FX and Julio Bashmore, so why haven’t I been yet? Well I’m absolutely terrified of skiing, however as night time falls, the slopes are transformed into igloo parties, fancy dress street parties, and an open-air ERISTOFF forest party…well I might be convinced. Hit the jump for some footage from this years festival, a first-hand experience from a Snowbombing virgin and more.

Throwback Thursday

posted by on 17/05/2012

There has been quite some hype over the return of a certain rapper; one of the best female rappers of our time. She’s also a record producer, a singer- songwriter and dancer who has worked with too many people in the music industry; notably with Timbaland. She and Timbo did some great things back in the day and recently the pair have been cookin’ up some shiz in the studio that a majority are eager to hear. This week’s throwback is dedicated to…

Film Review | The Raid

posted by on 17/05/2012

These days, it seems like every other film I watch contains some sort of fight scene. As such, I’ve seen a number of similar looking sequences which vary in their degrees of effectiveness, and the vast majority of those are little more than ‘seen-it-all-before’ shoot-em ups and the like. Put simply, it’s not often that a film excites me purely on an action basis, but The Raid is a fresh breath of air in this regard, and an instant standout of the genre. Whilst it will take a more thorough investigation to determine where The Raid ranks among the greatest action films of all time, it has certainly earned its place in that discussion.

London's Puddles

posted by on 16/05/2012

It’s fair to say that we’re renowned for rain all year around. Come on, where else do you get monsoon rain in the middle of Spring!? Londoner and photographer Gavin Hammond has made use of the city’s non-stop rainfall through photographing beautiful reflections from the puddles. Hammond’s series entitled London in Puddles almost looks like a painted series showcasing its citizens and architecture through the reflections. I’ll always post work that represents London in a beautiful light, especially since the Olympics are around the corner which most of us feel like it’s going to be shambolic. More on the reverse.

100 Posters 100 Days

posted by on 16/05/2012

Hawaiian designer Megan Matsuoka started up a passion project to boost her creativity, practice her design skills by keeping things simple. She tasked herself with the difficult task of creating 100 Posters in 100 Days, all of which will feature a dope quote-esque inspirational words of wisdom. The only way to develop your skills is by challenging yourself with tasks like this, I know LDN.365 forced me to grow. It was the only way and definitely grateful for it now. Her typography combinations are really slick and you can definitely see the growth through out the series. Oh to make things harder she’s set herself an hour limit per design, crazy. Peep them after the cut.

Drag Him Away

posted by on 15/05/2012

Inside Euston Station, JWT have installed this interesting interactive campaign to raise awareness on how people can step in and help put a stop to domestic violence. A series of interactive billboards have been placed in and around the station with a big screen starting off with a video of a man shouting in the face of a woman. People are asked to interact with the billboard via a mobile site that gives them chance to control the characters and manually drag the man away from the woman. Interesting for sure, I’m not sure how effective it will be though. It’s a nice experiment for sure but think the execution could have been a little better and more noticeable. Think a plethora of people will walk past without even noticing it, perhaps more interactive adverts around the location?

LightedPixels – Wedding Photography

posted by on 14/05/2012

Oh my God, these photographs are heavenly. As you already know, I’m going to be photographing three weddings this summer and um, I’ve never shot one before?! but I’m really looking forward to photographing happy people. That’s what it’s all about. I know I’m going to need to hire out a telephoto lens and up my game rapidly before then. Lightedpixels are a duo of photographers from Singapore who specialise in couple photography and without a doubt the best I’ve ever seen.  Their photographs appreciate the love, joy, quirkiness and significance of a wedding which enables them to capture remarkable scenes of fun, intimacy, tenderness and love. I’m truly in awe of their talents. Hop on after the cut to see a handful of their shots.

Levi's Flagship Store Launch – Paris

posted by on 14/05/2012

What a week, I am knackered. You all have probably noticed through our other social channels (FB and Twitter) that DJB and I headed down to Paris for a very special launch. The good folks at Levi’s Strauss Europe invited us down to the launch of their new flagship store on one of the city’s most prestigious roads, Champs-Élysées. I can’t pronounce that title with a French accent, end up saying Champ Ellesee haha. We bumped into London-based style enthusiasts on the Eurostar, Aaron and Martell of Individualism who happened to be going to the same event. More on the reverse.
